Aamir Khan Skips Andaz Apna Apna Screening Amid Pahalgam Tragedy – “I’ve Been Badly Affected”

In the middle of emotional grief, the actor takes a step back from silver screen nostalgia, as industry and fans respect his decision during a national moment of mourning.

Some silences can seem louder than applause.

And with this industry of fans and flash, Aamir Khan‘s absence at the re-release screening of his cult classic Andaz Apna Apna felt indescribably personal—and profoundly political.

Given the chaos of the Pahalgam terror attack, which left the country shaken, Aamir opted out of what was presumably a celebratory moment at the movies, noting simply:

“I have been badly affected by the senseless killing of innocents.”

This was not simply a missed screening. It was a statement.

The Tragedy That Moved Aamir – and the Industry

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam—a heart-wrenching reminder of an ever-present loss to violence—left Aamir too affected to join a moment of celebration. The actor, known for his caution and emotional integrity, shared:

“I read reports about what happened at Pahalgam in Kashmir. I have been badly affected. I’m not in a state to go. I’ll see it sometime later this week.”

In a frenzy to capture headlines, Aamir chose grief over glory.

A Film That Failed, Then Flew

Andaz Apna Apna, co-starring Salman Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, was once a box office flop. Over the years, it burgeoned into cult status—becoming a benchmark comedy for every generation that followed.

“Raj and I were only two who believed in the film. It didn’t work then, but it became one of my biggest home entertainment successes,” Aamir said.

Now with a Dolby 5.1 4K restoration and the addition of a never-before-seen song, Shola Shola, the film is set to be re-released to show its legendary tomfoolery on Gen Z screens.

But Aamir’s choice to defer the moment is the opposite of nostalgia; instead, it is a recognition of national sensitivity over personal nostalgia.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict:

In declining the screening, Aamir Khan reminded Bollywood of timing—and that some wounds deserve reverence. Even in celebration, there is still mercy. And in doing so, he reminded the fraternity that the real world doesn’t stop for premieres.

He is not just the face of method acting. He is the conscience of the industry.
