The moment that fans of Emraan Hashmi have been waiting for is finally here! After nearly two decades of demanding a sequel, the makers have officially announced that Awarapan 2 has started shooting. The original 2007 film has achieved a cult status over the years, thanks to its powerful story and unforgettable music.
Producer Vishesh Bhatt and Emraan Hashmi have kicked off the first shooting schedule in Bangkok. The announcement promises the same raw emotion, intense action, and blockbuster music that made the first film a classic. However, while the excitement is high, there are some big questions about this new chapter.
A Treat For The Fans: Shooting Kicks Off
The film, which was first announced on Emraan Hashmi’s birthday, is now in full production mode. The makers are promising to deliver the next chapter in Shivam’s journey of love and redemption. This magical partnership between Emraan and Vishesh Films has given us iconic hits like Jannat, Murder, and Gangster in the past.
The team is aiming for an April 3, 2026 release, and they have made it clear that this film is a special tribute to the fans who kept the spirit of Awarapan alive for so long.
But Can Nitin Kakkar Recreate The Magic?
Here’s where things get interesting. The original Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri, a filmmaker known for his signature dark, emotional, and music-driven style, which is a trademark of the Bhatt camp. However, Awarapan 2 is being directed by Nitin Kakkar.
While Kakkar is a talented director, his films are from a completely different world. He is known for critically acclaimed movies like the National Award-winning Filmistaan and the heartfelt Ram Singh Charlie. These films are praised for their realistic stories and subtle emotions, which is very different from the high-intensity, commercial genre that Mohit Suri excels in. Fans are left wondering if a director with such a different sensibility can do justice to the gritty and emotional world of Awarapan.
Remembering The Original Awarapan
It’s also important to remember that despite its cult status today, the original Awarapan was a box office flop when it was released in 2007. It clashed with two other big films, Himesh Reshammiya’s musical blockbuster Aap Kaa Surroor and the Deol family’s emotional drama Apne.
Awarapan only gained its popularity over the years, largely because its music became a massive hit. The film found its audience long after it left theatres. With the first part being a commercial failure and a director from a completely different school of cinema now in charge, it’s a tough challenge for Awarapan 2 to work at the box office.
