Actor Vikrant Massey, portraying the protagonist, disclosed in a recent interview that the film is scheduled to hit a staggering 20,000 screens across China, a move expected to substantially boost its revenue.
After months of anticipation, the announcement has been made: the film is set to hit screens in China. Speaking to India Today, the source highlighted the growing demand for Indian cinema in the Chinese market, citing over 20,000 screens allocated for screenings. Emphasizing China’s robust entertainment industry, the spokesperson noted the significant opportunity this presents for the film’s release.
Vikrant Massey On Visiting China To Promote 12th Fail
Vikrant was also asked about the possibility of visiting China to promote the film, to which he responded, “It is too soon to talk about that, but I’m really excited because, after a long time, something like this has happened.”
12th Fail did not have a widespread release in India but managed to garner Rs 56.75 crore in the domestic market. The film premiered with approximately 1,347 shows across India on its opening day.
Despite its modest budget, this was considered a significant success. Following its theatrical run, the film was released on the streaming platform Hotstar, where it garnered considerable acclaim on social media. Even 25 weeks after its initial release, 12th Fail continues to screen in theatres across India.
Indian movies such as Dangal, Secret Superstar, and PK have enjoyed remarkable success in China’s film market. Dangal raked in $196.89 million, Secret Superstar garnered $118.24 million, and PK amassed $116.6 million during their screenings in China.
The screening of Indian films in China was halted in 2020 amidst heightened tensions between the two nations. However, this prohibition was lifted in 2022 with the release of the Sushant Singh Rajput-led movie Chhichhore in Chinese cinemas.
