Despite strong word of mouth and positive trending, Ranveer Singh‘s action thriller has failed to match the international collections of Hrithik Roshan‘s Fighter by a substantial margin. The overseas box office numbers paint a clear picture that while Dhurandhar is performing decently, it falls significantly short of the benchmark set by Fighter in international markets earlier this year.
The comparison between these two films is particularly relevant because both are high-budget action films that were not released in Middle Eastern markets. Both films revolve around patriotic themes with intense action sequences. However, the overseas performance tells a very different story about their international appeal and box office pull.
The Overseas Numbers Tell The Real Story
Dhurandhar collected approximately USD 3.20 million (Rs 29 crore) in its opening weekend at the overseas box office. While this is a respectable number, it pales in comparison to Fighter, which had earned USD 5.30 million (Rs 48 crore approximately) during its opening weekend in international territories. The gap of over USD 2 million is significant and shows that Hrithik Roshan starrer had a much stronger pull in overseas markets.
Almost 90 percent of Dhurandhar‘s overseas business came from four main markets: the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The film grossed USD 1.35 million from the United States, USD 640,000 from Canada, USD 400,000 from Australia, and USD 405,000 from the United Kingdom. The remaining USD 410,000 came from New Zealand, the rest of Europe, and the rest of the world territories combined.
Why The Overseas Gap Matters
The overseas market is crucial because, unlike India, where box office numbers can be inflated through various means, the international collections are completely organic and transparent. The strong weekend trend for Dhurandhar showed Sunday holding on par with Saturday, which is encouraging. However, starting from a lower base means the film will need exceptional legs to catch up with Fighter‘s lifetime overseas total.
Fighter had the advantage of starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, both of whom have massive international appeal. The film also benefited from being directed by Siddharth Anand, who had delivered Pathaan just a year before. The aerial action sequences and patriotic theme resonated strongly with the diaspora audience. Dhurandhar, despite its violent action and Ranveer Singh’s star power, could not match that initial pull.
