Ramayana Teaser: Internet Calls Ranbir Kapoor’s Epic Glimpse A Film That Could Redefine Indian Cinema

Few teaser drops this year have triggered this kind of instant cultural churn. The first glimpse of Ramayana arrived with the weight of expectation, the aura of a major event, and a version of Ranbir Kapoor that the internet was ready to dissect frame by frame. Within minutes, reactions began pouring in across social media, with many viewers calling the footage “epic” and hailing it as a film that could “redefine Indian cinema.”

Unveiled on Hanuman Jayanti after special preview screenings in New York and Los Angeles, the 2-minute-38-second teaser introduces Ranbir as Lord Rama in a controlled, solemn avatar. The footage leans heavily into grandeur, from battlefield imagery to moments of silence and reverence, making it clear that Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation is aiming for emotional sweep as much as spectacle.

A Teaser Built On Scale, Reverence, And Instant Debate

The teaser’s biggest talking point is its sense of scale. DNEG’s visual effects work gives the film a distinctly international polish, while the score pairing of Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman adds another layer of event-film prestige. The result is a glimpse that feels carefully engineered to announce Ramayana as a mythological epic with global ambitions.

That ambition also invited scrutiny. While many viewers praised the visual design, the framing of Lord Rama, and the seriousness of the tone, some pointed to a few effects-heavy shots that they felt needed more finishing. Even then, the larger online mood stayed firmly energised, with curiosity and admiration driving the conversation far more than criticism.

Ranbir Kapoor has also spoken openly about the pressure of stepping into a role of this magnitude. At a Q&A during the film’s New York IMAX screening, he said, “Coming to play Lord Ram, I remember when Namit offered me this part around four years back. My instant reaction was: ‘I am not fit enough, good enough.’ I felt I wouldn’t be able to do full justice.” He added, “But that fear quickly turned into gratitude because opportunities like this were something I truly needed in my life.”

Why Ramayana Feels Pivotal For Ranbir Kapoor

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Conceived as a two-part mythological epic, the film adapts one of India’s most enduring stories and appears to frame the clash between Rama and Ravana on a massive cinematic canvas without losing sight of its spiritual and emotional core.

For Kapoor, that makes Ramayana feel especially significant. After the romantic comedy space of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and the dark, volatile intensity of Animal in 2023, this role places him in a very different register, one built on restraint, mythic presence and cultural familiarity. It also arrives at a moment when his star image is broad enough to carry spectacle, but still flexible enough to invite reinvention. That is a large reason the teaser has landed as more than just a launch asset. It has arrived as a statement.
