Inside a lavishly mounted Mumbai set echoing with royal grandeur, Ramayana has moved into one of its most visually arresting chapters, and Yash is right at the centre of it. The actor is now shooting Ravana’s portions in the Sita Swayamvar sequence, a moment from the epic that carries spectacle on the surface and simmering tension underneath, making it one of the film’s most closely watched schedules yet.
That single update says plenty about where Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious retelling now stands. With Ranbir Kapoor cast as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, Ramayana has been mounted as a major two part mythological event, with Part 1 listed for 2026 and the follow-up chapter for 2027 on film databases.
According to sources present in the ongoing schedule at Film City in Goregaon, the makers have created a sprawling set-up reflecting the Mithila kingdom, complete with giant palace courtyards, royal balconies, and traditional floor patterns decorated with flowers. Hundreds of junior artistes have been roped in. The centrepiece, of course, is Yash as they capture the sequence where Ravana unsuccessfully tried to lift the Shiva Dhanush.
A source close to the production revealed, “The current portion focuses on Ravana arriving at the swayamvar gathering and the dramatic tension surrounding the lifting of the bow. Yash has a commanding entry in the sequence. The crowd energy changes the moment Ravana enters the court. A lot of effort has gone into creating that aura visually.” Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, is expected to join the shoot later.
Yash Joins One Of Ramayana’S Big Dramatic Set Pieces
The ongoing Mumbai shoot is centred on the Sita Swayamvar stretch, where regal opulence, rivalry and fate collide in full public view. For Yash, this is no minor schedule addition. It places him inside a defining early movement of the story, one that begins shaping Ravana’s dramatic footprint well before the conflict reaches its peak, and gives the production one of its most cinematic ensemble passages to stage.

A Huge Ensemble Epic Comes Into Focus
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 brings together Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Ravi Dubey and Sunny Deol in a line-up that has kept industry attention fixed on the project since its announcement. The film is backed by Prime Focus Studios, with Yash also on board as a co producer through Monster Mind Creations, a detail that underlines how closely invested he is in the scale and shaping of the film.
That investment also ties neatly into how the film appears to be approaching Ravana. Earlier, Tiwari said the character would be portrayed in a “layered, humanised way” and added that he was “a great Shiva devotee.” In the context of a sequence like Sita Swayamvar, that reading matters. Ravana is not being treated as a distant final act force, but as a character whose stature and presence must register from the outset.
The story revisits the ancient epic through a large canvas, following Rama and Sita as the world around them shifts toward confrontation, exile and war. With the current schedule now tackling one of the tale’s most recognisable royal set pieces, the film’s visual ambition is clearly matching its headline casting.
Yash’S Recent And Upcoming Work
Yash’s last theatrical release was K.G.F: Chapter 2 in 2022, the blockbuster sequel that firmly expanded his pan Indian appeal. Since then, he has not had a released theatrical or OTT acting project, which has only sharpened the spotlight on what comes next.
His next confirmed theatrical projects are Toxic and Ramayana: Part 1, both listed for 2026 on film databases, with Ramayana: Part 2 following in 2027. It marks a striking new phase for the star, one built not on cautious steps, but on massive event films carrying enormous audience expectation.
