Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan is back in the spotlight, this time over its release date. The film, mounted as a large scale war drama rooted in the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, has been officially slated for April 17, 2026.
However, fresh chatter around a possible shift to the Independence Day window has sparked intense curiosity, given the film’s patriotic backdrop and the box office advantage often associated with mid August releases.
With multiple date theories doing the rounds, director Apoorva Lakhia has now responded on record, putting a key piece of information out in the open.
Apoorva Lakhia Reacts To Independence Day Release Date Rumours
In a conversation with Bombay Times, Apoorva Lakhia addressed the speculation directly and said, “I am not aware.” The director’s statement indicates that, at least from his end, there is no confirmed development about moving Battle of Galwan to the Independence Day week.
At present, the film’s release date remains April 17, 2026, and no official announcement has been made by the makers about any postponement or new schedule.
What’s Happening With The Film’s Timeline
Even as the Independence Day chatter continues, the film’s production timeline appears to be a major factor behind the noise. The project is said to be nearing the end of its shoot, with post production and editing expected to follow soon after.
Another consideration repeatedly linked to the film’s calendar is its mandatory screening requirement for the Ministry of Defence, given the subject’s sensitivity and real world context. That process, depending on scheduling and feedback, can impact final delivery timelines for big scale military based stories.
An insider also told Mid Day, “It’s all speculation stemming from talk that the film may need a clearance from the Ministry of Defence. The makers are aiming for an Eid release. If they are unable to meet it, they’ll line it up for Independence Day.”
About Salman Khan’s Battle Of Galwan
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Battle of Galwan is based on the June 15, 2020 confrontation at the Line of Actual Control, remembered for its hand to hand nature and the absence of firearms. The film centres on Colonel B. Santosh Babu and the 16 Bihar Regiment, portraying the high altitude battle and the soldiers’ sacrifice.
Salman Khan is expected to play Colonel B. Santosh Babu. The cast also includes Chitrangada Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary, Ankur Bhatia, Zeyn Shaw, and Vipin Bhardwaj. The story is heavily inspired by the book India’s Most Fearless 3.
