Sunny Deol To Headline Netflix Action Film Directed By Siddharth P Malhotra, Inspired By Kevin Bacon’s Death Sentence

Sunny Deol teams up with Siddharth P Malhotra for his Netflix debut, an intense action-thriller inspired by Death Sentence. Backed by Suparn Verma, the film goes on floors in July 2025.

Sunny Deol Enters OTT with Netflix Action Film Inspired by ‘Death Sentence’

Sunny Deol, now the man of the hour after Gadar 2 and Jaat, has officially entered the streaming race.

The veteran action star will head his first Netflix original action film, directed by Hichki & Maharaj filmmaker Siddharth P Malhotra, with a plot inspired by the 2007 Hollywood thriller Death Sentence starring Kevin Bacon.

The film will be produced by Suparn Verma, marking a major streaming debut for Deol, as well as a new collaborative experience for the action genre.

Death Sentence Reimagined: Desi Grit Meets Streaming

What is at stake and emotional too, is a watered-down version of Death Sentence in India.

Sources exclusively reveal that the yet-untitled Hindi adaptation of Death Sentence has been recrafted within a uniquely Indian storyline.

The screenplay has been adapted by Suparn Verma, famously known for his gritty storytelling on The Family Man & Rana Naidu, and guarantees all elements of an emotional rollercoaster film with grittiness.

A source stated, “Sunny Deol’s Netflix will be an action-driven feature film directed by Siddharth P Malhotra. The story is in Death Sentence but has been restructured to suit audiences in India. Sunny has allotted good bulk days and is receiving good pay to head this project.”

July 2025 Shoot | 2026 Release: Sunny Deol Is Fully Booked

The film is set to start shooting in July 2025, in the time period of 2026 releasing.
Between now and then, Deol’s schedule appears to be fully booked:

  • Currently, he’s shooting Border 2 with Anurag Singh, which is eyeing a Republic Day release in 2026.
  • Next, he’ll do wrap-up work for his Lahore: 1947, then he’ll go on to a short schedule, where in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, he’ll play his character Hanuman.
  • Later in the year, he’ll dive into his Netflix original in the following months, plus a few other projects that have not been announced.
  • There are a couple of projects in the works: Gadar 3 and Jaat 2. Both are in active writing.

The OTT Transition: The Veteran Actor Expands His Horizons

Sunny Deol’s transition to Netflix is part of a larger trend of major Bollywood stars backing streaming originals.

He’s involved in a project specifically for Netflix, but initial buzz around the project suggests that it might have a limited theatrical window, which would consequently make his project one of the first high-budget actioners with hybrid OTT and cinema, if that’s the stage that Deol would take.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

  • A Massive Win for Netflix India: With Sunny Deol’s box office appeal, Siddharth P. Malhotra’s direction and Suparn Verma’s writing, it will be difficult for anyone to find fault with this movie, and as far as I can tell, it is a must-watch.
  • A Re-Invention Curve: Deol is stepping into OTT while giving us massy cinema at the same time – from Gadar 3 to Ramayana, he has his hands in everything.
  • High-Octane Possibilities: If executed well, the emotional revenge thriller form of Death Sentence can deliver a memorable action drama for years to come.
  • Star In-Gear: With Border 2, Gadar 3, Lahore: 1947, and now this – Sunny Deol is the hardest-working veteran out there.

As Netflix continues to grow its originals content slate, positioning strong Indian talent and stories that have emotion and scale, you can mark this as a potential new standard for Bollywood stars coming to the OTT scene.
