Avatar: Fire and Ash Holds Strong on Third Friday in India – Nears Rs 200 Crore Box Office Milestone; Crosses 1 Billion Globally

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash continued its sturdy march at the Indian box office this weekend as the sci-fi spectacle recorded a solid third Friday performance and edged closer to a coveted Rs 200 crore gross mark in India. The film’s consistent crowd pull nearly three weeks into its theatrical run underscores the enduring appeal of the Avatar franchise among Indian audiences, even amidst stiff local competition.

Despite facing a competitive holiday season lineup, Avatar: Fire and Ash managed to gross approximately Rs 4 crore on its third Friday, lifting its total India gross to around Rs 192 crore. This performance, highlights the film’s resilience as it enters its third weekend in cinemas nationwide and is poised to cross the Rs 200 crore threshold by the end of the current weekend.

Avatar: Fire and Ash – Strong Indian Box Office Momentum

The sustained performance in India comes after an initial box office journey that saw Avatar: Fire and Ash become the biggest Hollywood grosser in the country in 2025, outpacing several major overseas releases. The film’s early run helped push total worldwide earnings past $1 billion, confirming its appeal both domestically and globally.

While Avatar: Fire and Ash has maintained strong weekend numbers, weekday collections have shown the usual drop typical of films in their third week. Nevertheless, holding around the Rs 4 crore mark on a Friday at this stage is a commendable feat for an overseas production, particularly given the dominance of major Hindi releases like Dhurandhar in recent weeks.

The slow but steady climb toward the Rs 200 crore milestone reflects the film’s broad appeal across formats, including dubbed and premium format screens. The Avatar franchise’s reputation for immersive visuals and family-friendly narrative continues to draw theatre-going audiences, even as newer local films vie for attention.

Avatar: Fire and Ash Crosses Global 1 Billion Milestone

On the global front, James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has officially joined the billion dollar club, underlining its massive worldwide appeal. The film’s global earnings through New Year’s Day on Thursday stood at a robust $935 million, with $266 million coming from North America and a dominant $699 million from international markets. On Friday, the film added another $14 million in North America from 3,832 theatres, pushing its domestic total to $280 million. Based on these returns, Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to comfortably top the weekend charts with an estimated $36 million to $38 million haul, crossing the $300 million mark in North America while simultaneously breaching the $1 billion milestone worldwide, a feat that further cements the franchise’s box office supremacy.

Context Within 2025 Box Office Landscape

Avatar: Fire and Ash is not only close to breaching the Rs 200 crore gross figure in India, but it also stands as one of the notable Hollywood performers in a year marked by significant competition from Indian films. While locally produced blockbusters have dominated the charts, the sci-fi epic’s performance highlights a healthy appetite for international tentpole films among Indian moviegoers.

As the film nears a new threshold this weekend, trade experts say keeping the momentum going could land Avatar: Fire and Ash among the top foreign grossers in Indian box office history, albeit well behind its predecessor Avatar The Way of Water. Regardless, the latest weekend figures affirm that global franchises can still find substantial success in one of the world’s fastest-growing film markets.
