Aishwarya Rai Bachchan summoned to appear before the ED in the Panama Papers case

Aishwarya Rai had presented records pertaining to the under investigation international payments. According to sources, the agency wants to record her statement right now.

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in connection with the Panama Papers, according to sources. The investigation agency wants to examine the 48-year-old actor over charges of stashing money abroad. She is said to have requested additional time.

When Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law, was brought for questioning, she requested extra time both times.

In 2017, the Enforcement Directorate began looking into possible FX irregularities. It had sent notices to the Bachchan family since 2004 under the Reserve Bank of India’s Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS), requesting them to explain their international remittances.

The “Panama Papers” case is a massive investigation involving millions of papers that were stolen and exposed to the media in 2016. The lawsuit centres on charges that the world’s wealthiest and most influential people set up offshore accounts or shell corporations to avoid paying taxes. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists examined and published leaked financial information of politicians, businesspeople, and celebrities from throughout the world.

The Panama Papers were claimed to include almost 300 Indians.
