Akshay Kumar Breaks Silence On Golmaal 5 role, says Ajay Devgn Is The Hero And He Has No Insecurity

Akshay Kumar joining Golmaal 5 was always going to raise one big Bollywood question: what happens when a superstar walks into a comedy franchise that audiences already identify so strongly with Ajay Devgn? Kumar has now answered that himself, and with unusual candour. He is not entering Rohit Shetty’s hit series to compete for the spotlight, and he has no issue saying Devgn is still the hero of the film.

That clarity arrives at a moment when Golmaal 5 is already carrying major nostalgia and curiosity value. Rohit Shetty recently announced the film’s production on his birthday, reviving a franchise that began with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited in 2006 and went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s most durable comedy brands. The new film reunites Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade, while also bringing back Sharman Joshi after the original outing. Kumar’s addition has now become the sequel’s most discussed twist.

Akshay Kumar Says Ajay Devgn Is The Hero, And He Has No Insecurity

Speaking to News18, Akshay made it clear that he views Golmaal 5 as an exciting opportunity, not a billing battle. “But isn’t it a great thing? It’s nice that whenever there’s any franchise, they want me,” he said.

He then addressed the hierarchy in the film without leaving room for ambiguity. “I’m happy that they think I was good enough to be a part of Golmaal. Ajay is the main hero. I’m not playing the main part. But what’s wrong with it? I look at a film as a film and never think, ‘Ki main kya kar raha hoon uss film mein’. For me, it’s far more important what the film is setting out to achieve. If I like the story, I’ll do it.”

Kumar also shut down any rivalry narrative with Devgn, with whom he shared screen space in Singham Again. “Mera role badhiya hai Golmaal mein, but Ajay’s the hero. I’ve no insecurity. Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai,” he said.

Those comments also do more than clarify his role in Golmaal 5. They explain why this move fits so neatly into the actor’s current phase.

What Golmaal 5 Says About Akshay Kumar’s Current Career Game Plan

By openly embracing a strong ensemble while acknowledging Ajay Devgn’s lead position, Kumar is signalling that franchise value and the film’s larger appeal matter more to him than conventional star hierarchy. That makes Golmaal 5 a natural addition to a slate built around crowd-pleasing theatrical titles and recognisable brands.

His recent filmography supports that reading. In 2024, he starred in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sarfira and Khel Khel Mein. In 2025, he featured in Sky Force, Kesari Chapter 2, Housefull 5 and Jolly LLB 3, keeping his presence firmly rooted in mainstream theatrical entertainment. Now Golmaal 5 places him inside another established franchise with a built-in audience, while Priyadarshan’s Bhooth Bangla remains lined up for a theatrical release on April 10, 2026. In that context, Kumar’s “no insecurity” statement feels less like a one-off quote and more like a clear expression of how he is choosing films right now: by scale, reach and entertainment value.
