Boney Kapoor Rubbishes Rumours Of Ajay Devgn Starrer ‘Maidaan’ Being Incomplete And Going Over-Budget

Ajay Devgn’s upcoming sports drama Maidaan, which is based on the life of legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, has been facing several delays due to the pandemic and other reasons. Recently, some reports suggested that the film is still unfinished and has exceeded its budget. However, the film’s co-producer Boney Kapoor has refuted these claims and revealed the status of the film.

Boney refutes rumours of ‘Maidaan’ getting delayed

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Boney Kapoor said that the film’s shoot is complete and only extensive VFX work is underway, which is taking some time. He also denied that the budget has gone overboard and said that he recently showed some portions of the film to almost 300 people in Chennai and they loved it.

“I recently showed some portions of the film to almost 300 people in Chennai and they loved it. The film’s shoot is complete; however, extensive VFX work is underway, which is taking some time. Contrary to what reports suggest, the budget has not been exceeded.” Boney said. It has been learnt that the release date will be decided next week.

Release date of ‘Maidaan’ to be finalised soon

The official spokesperson for Maidaan also dismissed the rumours and said that the film is on track but there’s a slight pause in finalising the release date due to the crowded lineup of big releases such as Tiger 3 scheduled for Diwali, Animal on December 1 and Dunki on Christmas this year. The spokesperson added that the film is a tribute to the golden era of Indian football and the makers are confident that it will resonate with the audience.

“Maidaan is a unique film with a long-lasting appeal. It is expected to gain momentum through word of mouth, much like Dangal. Hence, we are taking our time to select the date and there’s no rush,” the source explains.

Maidaan, directed by Amit Sharma, features Ajay Devgn as Syed Abdul Rahim, who is regarded as the architect of modern Indian football. He coached the Indian national team from 1950 to 1963 and led them to victory in several international tournaments. The film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, Rudranil Ghosh and others in pivotal roles. The film is jointly produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta.
