Boong, India’s First BAFTA Winner In Children’s And Family Film Category, Returns To Cinemas March 6 With New Poster

With Indian cinema still basking in the afterglow of a landmark BAFTA moment, Boong is ready for a fresh big-screen run in India. The Manipuri-language film, which made history by winning the BAFTA for Best Children’s and Family Film at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, is returning to theatres on March 6, 2026, with the makers unveiling a new poster to mark the countdown.

The win, sealed at London’s Royal Festival Hall on February 22, 2026, placed Boong in rare company globally, and gave a huge spotlight to a story rooted in Manipur, told with a universal emotional pull. Director Lakshmipriya Devi and the film’s producers, including Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Alan McAlex, were present at the ceremony to accept the honour.

New Poster Announces March 6 Theatrical Return

As of March 3, 2026, the Boong team has officially begun its final push for the re-release with a freshly shared poster on social media. The caption on the post reads, “A journey of innocence, love and resilience. Witness India’s first BAFTA Award-winning film, in cinemas on 6th March.”

The March 6 date is positioned as a wider theatrical re-release for Boong, giving the film another shot at connecting with audiences after its festival run and international recognition. The film is backed by Excel Entertainment in association with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures.

Boong, Cast, And Why The Story Travels

Written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong is led by child actor Gugun Kipgen, with Bala Hijam Ningthoujam and Angom Sanamatum in prominent roles. The story follows a young boy who wants to surprise his mother with what he believes is the most meaningful gift, bringing his absent father back home. The journey, powered by innocence and determination, ultimately reshapes his world and lands on an unexpected emotional outcome.

Internationally, Boong premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and continued its festival journey with selections that included screenings at the Warsaw International Film Festival.

With the BAFTA trophy now part of its story, Boong steps into March 6 carrying not just awards-season prestige, but the kind of word-of-mouth power that can only come from an emotionally honest film finding its moment.
