Kanguva Faces Backlash Over Deafening Sound Levels As Theatres Struggle With Complaints: ‘70% Of The Film Is Ruined By An Irritating Sound’

Kanguva faces backlash as audiences complain about deafening sound levels disrupting the movie experience.

If you’re heading to watch Kanguva in theatres, you might want to bring earplugs. The latest film starring Suriya and Bobby Deol has sparked backlash for its excessively loud sound levels, leaving many viewers annoyed.

Across social media, complaints are piling up from people who found the film’s audio unbearably high, with some calling it the loudest film they’ve ever experienced.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the issue isn’t limited to a handful of theatres; it’s happening nationwide. A manager at a popular multiplex, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that they received numerous complaints during the interval of every show on the release day.

Viewers assumed the theatre was responsible for the high volume, but the staff were helpless since they couldn’t adjust the sound levels. Similar feedback has been reported by cinemas in different regions.

70% Of Suriya’a Kanguva Has Been Ruined By Loud, Irritating Sound

It’s not just a problem in India. International audiences also feel the same. One industry insider, currently abroad, described their experience, saying the audio was so jarring that it felt like an assault on the ears. The overpowering sound design, according to them, distracted from the film itself, making it hard to connect with the characters.

“When I watched Kanguva, I felt like someone pierced my ears with a sharp knife. 70% of the film is ruined because of an irritating sound design that forces you to feel emotions for characters whereas you end up feeling forced to go and punch the soundbox in the auditorium.”

Sound designer Resul Pookutty also addressed the issue on Instagram. He expressed his concerns, suggesting that the industry needs to rethink its approach to sound. He emphasised that films won’t attract repeat audiences if they leave viewers with headaches.

He wrote, “High time our fraternity to put your foot down and say things loud and clear. No film will have a repeat value if the audience walk out with headache (sic).”

Yash’s KGF 2 Also Faced Similar Controversy

This situation isn’t new. Back in 2022, KGF: Chapter 2 faced similar complaints regarding its loud audio. In that case, the filmmakers quickly responded by releasing revised versions with adjusted sound levels. Now, theatre owners are hoping the Kanguva team will take similar steps to fix the issue.

One exhibitor from North India shared his worries, highlighting the health risks involved. He pointed out that people with conditions like high blood pressure or migraines could be seriously affected. He urged the filmmakers to resolve the problem quickly to ensure a safer viewing experience.

“Some people suffer from high blood pressure or migraine. What if something happens to them when they are watching the film in my cinema hall? Hence, we hope the makers of the film listen to our plea.”

Directed by Siva, Kanguva was expected to be a blockbuster, especially with its high-profile cast and gripping action sequences. But unless the sound levels are adjusted soon, it might end up losing audiences who could have been loyal fans.

For now, cinema owners are hoping the production team addresses this issue quickly so that fans can enjoy the film without the risk of ear pain.
