KD The Devil Director Prem Breaks Silence On Nora Fatehi Song Row, Says Controversial Line Is Everyday Speech In His Village

The storm around KD The Devil song Sarke Chunar has now forced director Prem to step in personally, and his response is both defensive and apologetic. With the Nora Fatehi-led track facing criticism over a Hindi line that many found objectionable, the filmmaker has said the phrase is part of everyday speech in his village and was never intended to offend.

Prem Responds To Sarke Chunar Backlash

Prem said the Kannada original passed without any objection and that the issue surfaced only after the song was adapted into Hindi. Explaining how the controversy unfolded, he said, “Everything went smoothly with the Kannada original. I didn’t understand the Hindi words used in translation as I am not fluent in the language. I come from a village where phrases like ‘neeche mat gira, uthao’ are part of everyday speech, it’s Janapada.”

He also rejected the idea that the team wanted publicity through provocation. “I don’t want any controversy. Mine is an emotional film, and the song is meant to be something people dance to at parties. It’s been well received in Karnataka and Kerala. Why would I want controversy?” Prem said.

The director confirmed that the contentious lines have now been changed and that the revised version will be submitted to the Censor Board. He also issued a direct apology, saying, “I am very sorry. If anyone has been hurt, I am very sorry. Our big film faced a small lyrics problem, but it has been blown out of proportion.”

Why The Song Became A Major Talking Point

The intensity of the backlash is also tied to the scale of KD The Devil itself. Backed by KVN Productions, the film is directed by Prem and led by Dhruva Sarja, with Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, V. Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, Jisshu Sengupta and Nora Fatehi in key roles. With music by Arjun Janya, it is being mounted as a pan-India emotional action drama, and Sarke Chunar was positioned as one of its high-visibility promotional tracks.

The film is due to hit theatres on April 30, 2026, which makes every song launch a crucial part of its national rollout. In that setting, Prem’s correction of the lyrics is aimed at shifting focus back to the film’s scale, cast and emotional pitch rather than letting one controversial phrase dominate the conversation.

Nora Fatehi’s Star Power And The Song’s Flashpoint Value

Nora Fatehi’s presence is central to why Sarke Chunar exploded into a wider pop culture debate so quickly. A song fronted by her is not treated like a routine soundtrack drop, especially when attached to a large-scale commercial film with pan-India ambitions. Her screen image, built around high-impact dance numbers and instant online traction, meant the track arrived with far more visibility than a standard promotional release.

That visibility cut both ways. It helped Sarke Chunar grab attention immediately, but it also intensified scrutiny once the disputed Hindi line began circulating online. For KD The Devil, that made the controversy bigger than a lyrics dispute. It turned into an early test of how carefully the film’s multilingual campaign is being handled before release.

With Prem now apologising, the lyrics revised, and a corrected version headed for certification, the focus shifts to whether KD The Devil can steer the narrative back to its film-first promise before its theatrical rollout begins in full force.
