Recent reports concerning an alleged surge in missing girls in Delhi have sparked widespread concern and discussion across social media platforms. Amidst this sensitive issue, speculation began circulating, suggesting that the marketing campaign for Rani Mukerji‘s latest film, Mardaani 3, was intentionally leveraging these reports for promotional purposes. The film, which hit theatres on January 30, has been at the center of these serious allegations, prompting a strong reaction from its makers.
Yash Raj Films Issues Official Denial
Yash Raj Films (YRF), the esteemed production house behind Mardaani 3, has categorically denied all accusations of exploiting the Delhi missing girls report for their film’s promotion. Following inquiries, a spokesperson for YRF released an official statement addressing the controversy head-on. “Yash Raj Films is a company with a 50-year legacy built on the principles of ethics and transparency,” the spokesperson stated. “We firmly deny the claims circulating on social media that the promotional campaign for Mardaani 3 has intentionally sensationalised such a sensitive matter. We have complete faith in our authorities, who will disclose all facts and truths in due time.” This firm denial aims to quell the rumors that have been rife on social media, linking the film’s marketing to the distressing reports.
Delhi Police Clarifies Missing Persons Data
Adding further context to the situation, Delhi Police has also refuted claims of an actual increase in missing girls in the city. Authorities described the supposed surge as panic inducing and asserted that the hype was fueled by “paid promotions,” though they did not identify any specific offenders. According to official data from Delhi Police, 807 individuals were reported missing between January 1 and 15. Among these, 509 were women and girls, while 298 were men. The reports included 616 adults and 191 minors. Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi reiterated that there has been no rise in missing person reports in the capital, noting that January 2026 recorded fewer cases than the same period last year. The police urged the public not to panic over rumors concerning missing persons, especially children, emphasizing that there has been no increase in such cases compared to previous years.
Similar Rumors Debunked in Mumbai
The wave of misinformation was not limited to Delhi. Similar panic inducing rumors recently emerged in Mumbai. The Mumbai Police swiftly addressed the situation, dismissing claims that misinformation regarding missing and kidnapped children was being spread online. They confirmed that such assertions are false and stated that FIRs are being filed against those disseminating rumors and inciting public panic. Both police forces have actively worked to combat the spread of unverified information.
About Mardaani 3
Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra, Mardaani 3 continues the franchise’s legacy of gritty, socially relevant storytelling. In this latest chapter, Rani Mukerji reprises her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, joining the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to tackle a troubling case involving the abduction of two young girls. The investigation progresses from what initially appears to be a straightforward trafficking case to reveal a more sinister human trafficking operation spanning the nation. Central to this operation is Amma, an elderly character played by Mallika Prasad. The film also features Shaitaan actor Janaki Bodiwala in a significant role, further exploring a complex criminal network that thrives under the guise of vulnerability and despair.
