Nidhi Dutta Expands Beyond Border With Fantasy Franchise And New Air Force Drama

Nidhi Dutta is taking JP Films into a far bigger arena. With Border 2 already anchoring the banner’s return to the big-screen war space, the producer has now lined up two more ambitious films, a fantasy adventure franchise and an Indian Air Force drama, marking one of the clearest creative pivots in the company’s recent journey.

What makes the move especially interesting is its timing. As Border 2 revives a title with deep recall in Hindi cinema, Dutta is using that momentum to shape JP Films into a banner that can play both in legacy-driven spectacles and new-format theatrical storytelling.

A Fantasy Franchise And Air Force Drama Redefine JP Films

The Bollywood Hungama story says Dutta is developing a fantasy adventure franchise designed on a large canvas, with filming planned across multiple locations in India. A source quoted in the piece said, “It’s an ambitious franchise that will be shot across multiple locations throughout the country. Like in Border 2, Nidhi has been part of the writing process here. The casting process has begun, and the film is likely to go on floors later this year.”

The same story adds that she is also producing a drama centered on the Indian Air Force, with the script completed and casting underway. A source quoted in the article said, “Nidhi wants to take this project on floors this year itself. This movie, along with Border 3, is aimed at expanding the producer’s repertoire of films that focus on the Armed Forces.”

Taken together, the two projects show Dutta balancing scale with familiarity. One pushes JP Films into fantasy world-building, while the other remains connected to the uniformed-services storytelling that has long been central to the banner’s identity.

Border 2 Becomes The Launchpad For A Bigger Banner Vision

The importance of Border 2 in this phase is hard to miss. The sequel connected JP Films to its most iconic legacy title, but it also serves as the project around which the company’s next chapter is being assembled. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film starred Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, with T-Series Films and JP Films backing the production. Film did massive business India and its 2nd biggest hit of the year.

Set against the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict, Border 2 extends the military storytelling tradition associated with the original Border while giving the banner a contemporary ensemble and a much larger commercial runway. That matters because a successful revival of a legacy war title can do more than deliver nostalgia, it can reposition a production house for a new generation of mainstream event films.

For JP Films, that is the real headline. Dutta’s current slate suggests a company no longer defined by a single classic, but one preparing to compete as a broader studio label with franchise ambition, patriotic spectacle and bigger theatrical intent.
