Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy Sequel To Go On Floors By Year End With Fresh Cast And New Director

Zoya Akhtar, the director who made Gully Boy, reportedly has plans for its sequel. In 2019, Zoya presented the film with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. Six years later, it is being said that the director might produce Gully Boy 2, and another director will helm it. Arjun Varain Singh, who helmed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, is reportedly on board for Gully Boy‘s sequel. Another update is that the film is rumoured to go on floors by the year-end.

According to a Mid-Day report, Gully Boy‘s sequel will revolve around a new rapper and a fresh star cast will be in place. However, it isn’t confirmed if Ranveer will not be a part of the project.

“With Gully Boy, Zoya and Reema [Kagti, co-producer and writer] brought on screen not only the struggles and perseverance of Indian rappers, but also the wide class divide. They felt the theme could lend itself to a sequel as there are many such rich stories to be explored. While Gully Boy saw the journey of Ranveer’s Murad reach its culmination, the second part will trace the story of another rapper,” a source said.

Another insider told the tabloid, “The film is in prep. If all goes as planned, it will roll by the year-end. Arjun showed depth in his directorial debut, and Zoya felt he was the right person to take this franchise ahead.”
