After Lipstick Under My Burkha, Alankrita Shrivastava brings us Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare.
Story:
The story revolves around two cousin sisters Dolly (Konkana Sen Sharma) and Kaajal (Bhumi Pednekar). Both born and brought up in a middle class family.
Dolly is a working woman who lives in Noida with her husband and two kids. She isn’t satisfied with her marriage life and considers herself the culprit until she meets a delivery boy named Osman (Amol Parashar) and gets involved in an extra marital affair with him. She then realises that it’s not her that’s the problem.
On the other hand, Dolly is a single women who is confused about her future and eventually decides to work for a call center where she talks romantic stuff on calls with men. She then falls for a client named Pradeep (Vikrant Massey), which becomes a mess later.
Writing & Direction:
Alankrita kept the subject as simple as it could be, which was the biggest demand of the film. A simple story has been told with a big message with Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare.
Performances:
Konkana Sen Sharma as Dolly is outstanding. The character required details and it seemed she kept them all in mind while performing. Bhumi Pednekar as Kitty aces her character so easily that for once you’ll forget that she might be a different person in real.
Aamir Bashir as Dolly’s husband, Amol Parashar as Dolly’s lover and Vikrant Massey as Kitty’s client were a perfect fit for the characters they play. Although a little more time for Vikrant’s character could be a treat to watch.
Karan Kundra as DJ was a treat to watch amd his girlfriend Shajiya played by Kubra Sait was perfect. A cameo by Neelima Azeem as Dolly’s mother was a little surprise in the film.
Verdict:
Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is a solid subject that has been displayed with a light hearted, lovely story. A thing that’s right for men can be right for women too. It’s as simple as that and it’s that simply shown by the makers.
