Story:
Anurag Basu’s Ludo consists of four stories that get related to each other some or the other way. The connection between all these stories is shown amazingly.
Sattu Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi) is a criminal who controls a gang.
Bittu Bhaiya (Abhishek Bachchan) is a sad man who’s recently out of the jail and is crying as he loses his wife and daughter to one of his friends.
Shreeja Thomas (Pearle Maaney) is a nurse from Kerala and is new in North India. Rahul (Rohit Saraf) is a homeless salesperson.
Akash Chouhan is an amazing voice-over artist who falls in love with Shruti Choksi (Sanya Malhotra) but Shruti is on a search for a life partner who’s a rich and successful man.
Pinky (Fatima Sana Shaikh) is Aalu’s (Rajkummar Rao) school love but is been used by her just to get her out of wrong decisions.
Ludo examines questions of virtue and vice, sin and goodness, heaven and hell, fate, and punishment through intersecting lives.
The story of Ludo revolves around a porn video, a kidnap, a confused wife with a child, and two unsuccessful adults. The film questions about the good and bad deeds, about who’s gonna get to hell and heaven.
Direction:
Throughout the movie, Anurag Basu made sure that the audience gets tired of laughing, and stay at the edge of their seats. The dialogues and direction are up to point. Everything is placed in places so precise, you will fail to note down any mistakes in the whole movie.
150 minutes in the movie and you will come out thinking why did it end.A big thumbs up for the Yamraj and Chitragupta trope. It’s quirky and fun.
Performances:
Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra play their parts well. Aditya Roy Kapur with his witty comments and expressions is so apt that you want to watch him more and maybe want a friend/boyfriend like him for yourself too. Rajkummar Rao, as usual, did his role precisely well. Pankaj Tripathi will once again make you believe there is nothing this man can’t do. Abhishek Bachchan was so into his character that you want to keep watching him just for his outstanding expressions. Rohit Saraf and Pearle Manney are a treat for the cutest couple of om screen. Anurag Basu in his cameo is a treat to watch as well. Special mention for the strong supporting cast the film has.
Music:
The music by Pritam in the film has been smartly kelt understated which the film demands. The song O Beta Ji in the film seems like it completes the film. The title track of the film is catchy too. Aabaad Barbaad by Arijit Singh is like a dessert you need to complete the meal.
Verdict:
In a nutshell, Ludo is one entertaining package. It is all about fun and spunk.
