Aakhri Sawal Box Office Day 2: Sanjay Dutt’s Political Drama Is A Disaster With Rs 1.10 Crore Total

Sanjay Dutt’s Aakhri Sawal is off to a deeply disappointing start at the box office, and even its second-day growth has not been enough to change the story. After opening to just Rs 40 lakh nett on Friday, the political drama added Rs 70 lakh nett on Saturday, taking its two-day India total to Rs 1.10 crore nett. For a film that arrived in cinemas carrying an ambitious political theme and a reported budget of around Rs 30 crore, the early response has been far below expectations.

The slight Saturday jump may have lifted the daily number, but the overall picture remains bleak. Overseas, the film has collected Rs 15 lakh gross, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 1.50 crore. Those figures leave Aakhri Sawal with almost no commercial cushion at the start of its theatrical run, especially after the film missed its original May 8, 2026 release and finally opened in theatres on May 15 following a delay linked to certification issues.

Weak Day Two Jump Keeps Weekend Outlook Poor

Saturday’s 52 per cent rise over opening day looks better on paper than it does in context. With the base number already extremely low, the increase has done little to improve the film’s standing, and Aakhri Sawal is heading for an opening weekend under Rs 2 crore. At the close of day two, its India total stood at Rs 1.10 crore nett, firmly placing the film in disaster territory.

Aakhiri Sawal Box Office Collection:

Day 1: 40 lac

Day 2: 70 lac

Total: 1.10 crore nett

That weak hold on the market is especially striking because box office turnarounds usually need either strong word of mouth or major occupancy spikes over the weekend. So far, Aakhri Sawal has not shown either. The coming weekdays will now be critical for its theatrical survival.

Inside The Film’S Political And Psychological Conflict

Directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang, Aakhri Sawal stars Sanjay Dutt, Namashi Chakraborty, Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy, Tridha Choudhury and Neetu Chandra. The film was produced by Nikhil Nanda and Sanjay Dutt under Nikhil Nanda Motion Pictures and Neem Tree Entertainment, while PVR Inox Pictures handled distribution.

The drama follows Vicky, a brilliant but volatile scholar whose thesis on the RSS is rejected, triggering a bitter clash with his mentor, Professor Gopal Nadkarni. What starts as an academic dispute soon escalates into a national spectacle, with the story weaving in ideological debate, media sensationalism, and sharp references to events such as the Gandhi assassination and the Emergency.

Sanjay Dutt’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Sanjay Dutt has remained active across Hindi and South cinema in recent years. His notable releases included K.G.F: Chapter 2 in 2022, Leo in 2023, Ghudchadi in 2024 and Double iSmart in 2024. He also made a special appearance in Jawan in 2023.

In 2026, Dutt was seen in The RajaSaab and Raja Shivaji. With Aakhri Sawal now in theatres and struggling to gain any box office traction, his recent slate reflects a busy but commercially mixed phase, marked by high-profile multi-industry appearances and sharply varied results.
