Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya Kapoor’s debut film Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan was released in theatres on July 11. Inspired by Ruskin Bond’s beloved short story The Eyes Have It, the film transports the literary classic into a contemporary cinematic setting, with a focus on emotional restraint and sensory storytelling.
Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan offers tender moments and soulful storytelling, but ultimately feels like a delicate sketch stretched into a full canvas. It’s a film that feels more than it moves beautiful in parts, but never quite stirring as a whole. Film will find it tough at box office due to slow pace and no pre release buzz.
Critics gave mixed reactions to the film. Film was headlined by Vikrant Massey and expected to open with some sort of number but it bombed on day one itself.
Starting terribly low on the first day, the film did a business of only Rs 32 lakh at the box office. Film grew marginally on day two and collected 43 lakh net followed by 45 lakh net on Sunday. Film crossed 1.20 crore net over weekend and even 3 crore net lifetime at box office looks tough!
This is disaster number and leaves no scope of growth or recovery of budget from here on. Film was made 25 crore of budget and it seems at the moment, majority of the budget will go down the drain.
