Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 Clocks 34 Crore Day Two With 40 Percent Independence Day Jump, Heads For Rs 77 Crore Weekend

Awarapan 2 delivered the kind of Independence Day jolt the box office waits all year for. After a strong opening on August 14, 2026, Emraan Hashmi’s sequel surged to Rs 34.09 crore on day two with a 40 percent holiday jump, setting up a Rs 77 crore nett opening weekend and firmly taking charge of its clash. For Hashmi, the early numbers mark a huge theatrical high point, with the film racing ahead as his biggest day one and opening weekend performer in a lead role.

Awarapan 2 Turns Holiday Heat Into A Big Weekend Run

The momentum behind Awarapan 2 has been sharp and sustained. The Independence Day boost did more than lift collections, it pushed the film into event territory, giving the weekend a clear frontrunner and widening its gap over Batwara 1947 which managed only 17 crore nett in two days. That strong hold also underlines the value of a title that arrived with built-in audience curiosity, especially with Hashmi stepping back into one of the screen spaces most closely associated with his image.

That connection was underlined when the film was first announced. In its official launch note, Vishesh Films said, “A tribute to all the fans who have loved and celebrated Awarapan. Get ready to relive the nostalgia and embrace a next chapter in Shivam’s journey as Awarapan is set to hit theatres on 3rd April, 2026.” While the release plan later changed, the emotional bridge between the original film and this sequel clearly stayed intact.

Day 2: 34.09 cr

Why This Opening Matters

The original Awarapan, released in 2007, built a loyal following over time and remained one of the defining titles in Hashmi’s filmography. The sequel brings him back to that emotional, brooding space, this time under director Nitin Kakkar, with Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in the principal cast and Vishesh Bhatt producing the film for Vishesh Films.

What makes the current run notable is how decisively the film has converted that setup into numbers. A Rs 30 crore day two and a projected Rs 77 crore opening weekend place Awarapan 2 in a commanding position through the holiday corridor, while also establishing a clear lead over Batwara 1947 in the clash.

Emraan Hashmi’S Recent And Upcoming Work

This opening weekend gives fresh weight to Hashmi’s recent career phase, which has seen him move between streaming projects and theatrical releases before landing this clean commercial surge. Over the past two years, he has balanced visibility across formats through the 2024 series Showtime, the Prime Video film Ae Watan Mere Watan, and the 2025 theatrical release Ground Zero.

In 2026, Hashmi has also been linked with Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web and cast listings for Goodachari 2, showing that his slate continues to stretch across genres and platforms. That broader run makes the start of Awarapan 2 feel even more significant, because it does not stand as an isolated box office spike, but as a strong reminder of the kind of theatrical response Hashmi can still command when a familiar emotional property connects at the right time.
