Ayushmann Khurrana’s Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 Set To Open Below Pati Patni Aur Woh’s First Day Haul From 7 Years Back

Ayushmann Khurrana’s return to big-screen comedy arrives with pressure already built into the opening day narrative. Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 is heading into theatres with trade expectations well below the first-day start recorded by Pati Patni Aur Woh, the franchise’s 2019 hit.

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the Mudassar Aziz directorial is expected to open below Rs 4.5 – 5 crore nett on day one. That would place it under the Rs 9.10 crore nett start registered by the Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday starrer, which released seven years before the sequel’s arrival in 2026.

A Lower Opening Puts Weekend Pressure On The Sequel

The softer opening projection means Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 will need strong audience traction beyond Friday. The first film not only took a solid start at 9.10 crore nett, but also went on to emerge as a commercial success with about Rs 86.89 crore nett (Rs 103.44 crore gross) in India and roughly Rs 118 crore worldwide gross.

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 stars Ayushmann Khurrana as Prajapati Pandey, alongside Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rakul Preet Singh. Backed by T-Series and BR Studios, the film returns to the franchise’s signature zone of marital confusion and comic deception, with a marriage thrown into chaos after a romantic complication upends the couple’s world in Prayagraj.

The 2019 Pati Patni Aur Woh had clicked as a breezy mainstream entertainer, powered by comic timing, catchy music and a setup that connected with family audiences. This time, the film keeps Aziz in the director’s chair but resets the franchise with a fresh central cast, which makes the opening all the more crucial. A slower first day is not a verdict, but it does raise the stakes for Saturday and Sunday in a big way.

Why This Friday Matters For Ayushmann Khurrana

This release also lands at an important moment in Ayushmann’s theatrical journey. He built his stardom on high-concept entertainers and character-driven comedies, and Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 gives him another chance to click in a broad commercial zone that can stretch beyond urban multiplexes if the audience responds.

Ayushmann’s recent theatrical run has been mixed. Dream Girl 2 in 2023 gave him a clear commercial success after a tougher phase that included Anek, Doctor G and An Action Hero in 2022. With Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, he returns to a familiar comic space, but now with franchise expectations and opening-day scrutiny in play.

Beyond this film, Ayushmann also had Thamma, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, released in 2026 to below par response. That makes the performance of Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 worth watching closely, not just as a sequel’s box office test, but also as an important checkpoint in his current theatrical run.
