2019 proved to be a great year for mid-sized Bollywood films at the box office. But in order to register year to year growth, industry needs big tentpole films to work. After blockbuster success of ‘War’, now all eyes are set on comedy franchise ‘ Housefull 4’.
Probably for the first time there is three way clash on Diwali comprising one biggie massy comedy ‘Housefull 4’, one women centric family drama ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ and one urban comedy with sexual undertone ‘ Made In China’.
‘Housefull 4’ will lose minimum 1000-1200 screens in Hindi market to these films and that itself is a loss of 8-10 cr nett on big festival. But all said and done, film will open huge as we saw sometime back with ‘Total Dhamaal’. Also this genre is ‘critic proof’ as masses will decide the final outcome not the ratings.
Film will have a great weekend in vicinity of 70-75 cr nett (pre Diwali festivities will affect the numbers) followed by big Monday and film should cross century figure in 4 days as anything less than that will be disappointment. Overall film is set o be a profitable venture for makers even if reviews and clash affect it adversely but it looks tough for the film to cross lifetimes business of ‘Mission Mangal’ and become highest Akshay Kumar grosser.
