Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s quirky rom-com, Bhool Chuk Maaf, finally made it to the big screen – and thankfully, also to the box office. After delaying its planned May 9 release due to a legal hiccup, the film opened decently compared to the other two films, both heading straight into oblivion.
Directed by Karan Sharma, the time-loop rom-com film opened to an estimated ₹5 crore on its opening day, which will be considered a success for the film given the uncertainty over whether it would make it to theatres.
Meanwhile, Kapkapiii & Kesari Veer Are Packing Their Bags
In contrast, Kapkapiii and Kesari Veer are so busy struggling to open, they might start packing their bags. Sources close to both films estimate that they will be lucky to touch ₹20 lakh each on Day 1.
While Bhool Chuk Maaf at least made it to the main screen, Kapkapiii and Kesari Veer will soon begin to rival bheegi billis hiding from the storm if they cannot perform as planned.
In reality, box office analysts predict that neither film will breach ₹1 crore net lifetime, unless there is a miracle at the box office involving free popcorn and compulsory school group outings.
A Clear Winner Emerges, But Will It Withstand?
Bhool Chuk Maaf, with its funny premise and enjoyable ensemble cast, has at least found a window at the box office. It was not an earth-shattering start, but the Friday numbers do raise hopes for the weekend — especially with some word-of-mouth starting to filter in positively.
With a fresh take on a romantic time loop and the reliable presence of Rajkummar Rao and the newest rising star, Wamiqa Gabbi, the film may have no big worries about urban audiences seeing it.
