Akshay Kumar starrer Rakshabandhan is set to release on 11th August and it will clash with another big ticket and much-awaited Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha.
The film will be released by Zee Studios and going by the promos, it seems like a mass family single-screen film and that’s what will be the main target.
Aamir Khan has already secured a deal with PVR-Inox plus his target audience and film’s feel is more suited to high-end urban multiplexes.
Rakshabandhan is the next release of Akshay Kumar post failures of Samrat Prithviraj and Bachchan Pandey while Anand L Rai is coming after flop Zero and not-so-great Atrangi Re.
Rakshabandhan will get a maximum of 2500-3000 screens at best as Aamir Khan starrer will have far wider release down south and 60-65% multiplex screens all over India.
Overseas will be a one-way race as Aamir Khan is a huge star over there Rakshabandhan will clearly struggle there.
As per the information available, Rakshabandhan should open close to 9 cr nett and good reviews should take it close to 10-11 cr nett.
Fans and opening day enthusiasts newly turned trade experts will start hurling adjectives on this figure but it’s a ground reality as of now.
Things can change depending on reviews and buzz leading to release but nothing drastic will change on day one through the weekend and week one will be purely decided on word of mouth basis.
Let’s hope both films come out as winners at the box office as the industry needs successful films.
