All eyes are on the War 2 Box Office performance which is clashing with another biggie Coolie. The clash between superstars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2 and Rajinikanth’s Coolie has generated immense hype, but after a surprisingly sluggish start, the advance booking numbers told a clearer but bleak story.
While the films have picked up pace recently, the initial projections have been re-evaluated, suggesting an opening day that is average but falls short of the colossal expectations initially set for the action extravaganza. Both films hurt each other and business is suffering.
War 2 And Coolie Open To Poor Reviews
War 2 has opened to mixed reviews and critique over its storyline, VFX, and predictability—some even likened it to the YRF flop Thugs of Hindostan. Advance ticket sales for War 2, though strong in Telugu-speaking regions, have lagged behind expectations in the Hindi market. For Coolie, despite massive opening hype and pre-sales (even ₹110 crore in advance bookings), early viewer reactions have been mixed, with criticisms around screenplay and characterization .
Saiyaara Stands Tall Against Biggies
Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2 sold 1,53,000 tickets in advance booking in national chains for day one. Other biggie Rajinikanth’s Coolie sold 36,000 tickets in national chains for day one. In comparison to these biggies, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer Saiyaara sold 1,93,000 tickets in advance bookings before release. Even combined sales of War 2 and Coolie is less than Saiyaara. For unversed, Saiyaara has crossed 330 crore net in India and 155 crore in overseas.
Mahavatar Narsimha also became highest grossing animation film of India. Film grossed 125 crore plus net in Hindi.
Now both of these films will get better showcasing from tomorrow itself to a small extent and post holiday from Monday, both the films will get bigger showcasing.
The Road Ahead And The Holiday Factor
The performance of new releases in the coming days will be critical. The big Independence Day holiday on Friday, its second day in theatres, provides a massive opportunity for growth. The ultimate box office trajectory of War 2 and Coolie will now heavily rely on audience word-of-mouth. If the content clicks with some sections, the film could see huge jumps on the holiday and throughout the weekend, potentially compensating for the lower-than-expected start and still reaching a respectable total.
