A 40 day advance booking window is usually designed to signal confidence and build urgency, but Ek Din has opened to the opposite effect. Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi’s romantic drama failed to cross even Rs 1 crore nett in India on day one, turning what should have been a carefully staged launch into a sobering start at the ticket window.
The result stands out because Ek Din arrived with more than just a release date push. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions and carrying the added spotlight of Sai Pallavi’s Hindi theatrical debut, the film entered cinemas with clear visibility. Yet that pre-release attention did not convert into a meaningful opening-day number.
A Soft Start Despite An Unusually Early Ticketing Push
Opening-day trade figures carried in the source report placed Ek Din below the Rs 1 crore nett (0.90 0.95 crore) mark in India. For a film that opened advance booking 40 days before release, the number underlines weak initial audience pull and a theatrical start that fell short of expectations from its release strategy.
Aamir Khan has done all sort of pr gimmicks, marketing, podcasts and interviews but still film failed to ignite any sort of interest from audience. Junaid Khan’s last release Loveyapa opened to disastrous 0.75 crore nett on day one.
The immediate pressure now shifts to sustained occupancy over the weekend, because the first-day figure leaves the film with little margin at the outset. In pure trade terms, Ek Din began its box office journey on a disappointing note.
The Love Story At The Centre Of Ek Din
Directed by Sunil Pandey, Ek Din is a Hindi romantic drama produced by Mansoor Khan, Aamir Khan, and Aparna Purohit under the Aamir Khan Productions banner, with PVR Inox Pictures distributing the film. Headlined by Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, alongside Kunal Kapoor, Kavin Dave, and Pragati Mishra, the film adapts the 2016 Thai title One Day for a Hindi audience. At its heart is the story of Dinesh, a man who quietly loves his colleague Meera and gets one brief, life-altering chance to spend time with her during a trip to Japan.
That emotional premise gave Ek Din a softer, character-driven identity in the marketplace, but its opening-day number suggests that the film has not yet found wide theatrical traction.
What This Opening Means For Junaid Khan And Sai Pallavi
For Junaid Khan, the performance of Ek Din adds another closely watched chapter to an early career still searching for a decisive theatrical win. He made his acting debut with Maharaj in 2024 on OTT, followed that with Loveyapa in 2025 as his first theatrical release which was a box office disaster, and now faces another modest box office beginning with Ek Din. The current result makes his next move even more significant.
For Sai Pallavi, the film marked an important Hindi big-screen step after Amaran in 2024 and Thandel in 2025. Her larger pan-Indian momentum, however, remains intact with Ramayana: Part 1, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, set for release on November 6, 2026.
