Diwali releases set to lock horns at box office as Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu and Ajay Devgn – Sidharth Malhotra starrer Thank God released with below par responses in advance bookings. But as expected film jumped in spot bookings and managed very good day one.
Ajay Devgn Starrer Thank God released in 2200 screens and as expected grew in spot bookings today in mass centres. Film was affected by poor marketing and low buzz but film was helped by hit songs and good release date. Film collected 8.10 cr nett on day one which was strictly average but not bad considering clash.
Film held well and mass centres performed well. As per early trends, film should collect 6 cr nett on day two and it is fair result considering clash. Film dropped by 25% on next day after festival which is fair. Film collected 4.15 cr nett on Thursday which is further drop followed by poor 3.30 cr nett on Friday with steep drop. On expected lines it grew on Saturday but only by slim margin with 3.70 cr nett and 4 cr nett on Sunday.
Film dropped on weekdays and collected poor 1.50 cr, 1.20 cr. 1.10 cr and 0.95 lacs nett on weekdays.
Film has 10 days extended week one total of 34 cr nett which was poor and this is another failure from Ajay Devgn.
Film added 30 lacs, 40 lacs and 35 lacs over 2nd weekend and total 35 cr nett plus. It means that film will finish with under 38-39 cr nett lifetime total and that is poor number for a Diwali release. Film was also disaster in overseas and despite family friendly genre it got rejection worldwide. Flop !
