Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is all set to deliver third mega hit of the year with his film Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Film released on 21st December all over. Film clashed with mega Telugu film Salaar.
Dunki is a comedy-drama film that marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, who is known for his blockbuster films like Munna Bhai series, PK, 3 Idiots and Sanju. The film also stars Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles. The film is co-written by Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.
Salaar Ceasefire is massive Telugu release which has budget of in excess of 400 cr. On the other hand, SRK starrer Dunki is superstar’s cheapest film in last decade or so. Dunki has moderate budget of 85 crore plus Hirani & SRK’s fee.
Dunki will do minimum share of 225 crore worldwide in addition to ancillary rights of 180-200 cr. With 400 crore plus in kitty, film will be massive money spinner for King Khan.
Dunki Beats Salaar In Overseas Market
Dunki has beaten Salaar in overseas market despite Salaar had preview advantage on its side. Salaar finished its opening weekend overseas with a Sunday gross of USD 1.40 million, achieving a total of USD 10.41 million (86 cr). This positions it as the third-highest opening for a Telugu film, trailing behind the massive successes of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 and RRR. In fact, just two other Telugu films have done more in full run: Baahubali and Saaho, so it’s a big number in that context. Speaking of the top performers, North America did well with USD 5.40 million, making up for nearly 60 per cent of the total gross. Middle East came in second with USD 1.95 million. Australia with AUD 850K and the United Kingdom GBP 380K also did well. Other than that there was nothing of value from anywhere else.
Dunki collected USD 9.40 million in its four-day extended weekend overseas, which is underwhelming for a Shah Rukh Khan film in 2023. The conventional weekend frame i.e. Thursday to Sunday in the Gulf and Friday to Sunday elsewhere is USD 7.70 million. Combined with Rs. 125 crore weekend in India, the worldwide opening is Rs. 211 crore. The best performers for the film are Germany, Australia and Canada. The first one is Shah Rukh Khan’s clout at work as non-SRK films don’t collect this much in the full run while in the latter two, the film being set in Punjab aided the cause as these two markets have a big Punjabi diaspora. The weakest was the Middle East (that’s considering SRK starter, for a non-Khan film, these are HUGE numbers) which unlike Canada and Australia is low on Punjabi diaspora and the genre has struggled historically.

Salaar In Hindi To Collect Less Than 1st Week Collection Of Dunki
Salaar has crossed almost 50 cr nett over 3 day weekend in Hindi and Dunki is sitting at 108 cr nett Hindi after 3 days. Dunki should finish with 160 cr nett minimum in week one and that will be far more than lifetime Hindi business of Salaar. As of now Salaar seems to be heading for 125 crore nett Hindi business at max.
