Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan saw 3rd release of the year yesterday at box office. Dunki is 3rd release after blockbuster business of Jawan and Pathaan.
Dunki is a comedy-drama film that marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, who is known for his blockbuster films like Munna Bhai series, PK, 3 Idiots and Sanju. The film also stars Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles. The film is co-written by Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.
Dunki Defies Genre To Emerge Highest Opening Post Pandemic
SRK’s Dunki has taken superb start on expected lines. Film has done well on day one despite being mid week release and drama genre. Film opened to good occupancy and continued to increase as day passed. Though word of mouth seems mixed but still film should sail through on power of family audience and urban class.
The top 3 chains, PVR & Inxo and Cinepolis are headed to collect in the vicinity of Rs 17 crore on the first day, contributing 55 percent to the total business.
Film collected around 30.50 – 31 cr nett on day one. Trade was bullish and so was social media as expectations were huge around the film. But the genre had its limitation. But still King Khan surpassed massive number on day one considering business of other biggies of same genre post pandemic.
Top Non Action Opening Days Post Pandemic, Dunki Is On Top By Big Margin
Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki collected more than double on day one than Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, 2nd best opening of non action film post pandemic. Following are the top Opening days for films post pandemic in non action genre:
1. Dunki : 31 cr
2. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan: 15.81 cr
3. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar: 15.73 cr
4. Laal Singh Chaddha: 11.70 cr
Dunki has opened well and should be trending solid from here onwards to holiday period. Film will reap benefits of content and holiday period.
It has to be noted that SRK’s Jawan is highest grosser in India, dubbed version in India and worldwide. Pathaan is highest overseas Grosser. These records remain untouched by domestic phenomenon like Gadar 2 and worldwide phenomenon Animal.
