Main Vaapas Aaunga Box Office: Imtiaz Ali Film Heads For Rs 62 Crore Lifetime Total After Rs 2 Crore Fifth Weekend

Just when its theatrical run looked ready to fade out, Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga found enough late momentum to remind the box office that it was not done yet. The pre-Partition romantic drama collected Rs 2 crore in its fifth weekend, pushing its running total to Rs 59.50 crore nett in India and setting it up for a Rs 62 crore nett lifetime finish.

For a film that did not open with blockbuster-sized numbers, that kind of endurance has become the real story. Main Vaapas Aaunga has stayed in the conversation through steady word of mouth, and its ability to keep adding numbers deep into week five gives its theatrical journey a quietly impressive edge.

Fifth Weekend Hold Keeps The Run Alive

The film’s collection pattern shows how it built its total over time rather than through a front-loaded surge. It earned Rs 11.50 crore in week one, followed by Rs 21.25 crore in week two and Rs 16.25 crore in week three. Week four added Rs 7 crore, and the fifth weekend brought in another Rs 2 crore, taking the India nett total to Rs 59.50 crore.

With only the last leg of its cinema run left, Main Vaapas Aaunga is now on course to add Rs 4 crore more and end at Rs 62 crore nett. That may not place it among the year’s biggest earners, but it does underline the strength of a film that kept finding an audience even as fresh releases crowded the marketplace.

Its hold becomes more notable in the context of competition from newer titles such as Dhamaal 4. Instead of dropping out quickly, the film managed to stretch its run and turn a modest start into a respectable overall finish.

A Partition Love Story Powered By Memory And Loss

Behind those numbers is a film built around emotion, nostalgia and generational pain, all territory that fits naturally within Imtiaz Ali’s storytelling world. Released on June 12, 2026, Main Vaapas Aaunga is a Hindi romantic drama directed by Ali and written by him with Nayanika Mahtani. It was produced by Applause Entertainment, Birla Studios and Window Seat Films, with music composed by A. R. Rahman.

The story follows a grandson caring for his dying, dementia-stricken grandfather, only to find that the old man’s fading memories unlock a tragic love story linked to the 1947 Partition. Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina lead the cast, giving the film a mix of emotional heft and youthful energy.

That staying power also feeds into the larger conversation around Diljit Dosanjh’s current theatrical pull, especially at a time when his film choices continue to span prestige projects and mainstream entertainers.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Big-Screen Run Stays In Focus

Diljit Dosanjh stayed firmly in the spotlight over the past few years with Crew and Amar Singh Chamkila in 2024. Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali and released on Netflix, drew particular acclaim for his performance and reinforced his strength in character-driven material.

In 2025, he appeared in Detective Sherdil. In 2026, Main Vaapas Aaunga arrived as one of his key theatrical releases. His confirmed upcoming theatrical project is Border 2, in which he stars alongside Sunny Deol. Taken together, the line-up shows an actor moving comfortably between prestige-led stories and larger commercial cinema.
