Marathi cinema has welcomed New Year 2026 on a roaring note as KrantiJyoti Vidhyalaya Marathi Madhyam posts a surprise blockbuster opening on Day 1 across Maharashtra cinemas. Released on January 1, 2026, the film opened to strong occupancy from morning shows onwards and maintained excellent momentum through the day.
Despite competition from Dhurandhar, the film has put up a tough fight at the box office, outperforming several running titles and scoring better than ‘Ikkis’ across Maharashtra circuits.
Distributed by Sunshine Studios, the film released in nearly 300 cinemas and collected an impressive ₹80 lakhs nett, translating to approximately ₹1 crore gross on Day 1.
Produced by Kshitee Jog and directed by Hemant Dhome, the film marks Hemant Dhome’s second-best opening after Jhimma 2, proving yet again that the Jhimma team combo works.
The successful Hemant Dhome–Kshitee Jog collaboration, earlier seen in Jhimma, Sunny, Jhimma 2, and Fussclass Dabhade, has delivered once again. Trade circles are also crediting the Chalchitra Mandalee–Sunshine Studios distribution partnership for repeating its winning formula.
A major highlight is the Marathi debut of Prajakta Koli, whose popularity across Bollywood and digital platforms has clearly converted to footfalls.
Her presence, along with Siddharth Chandekar and Ameya Wagh, has played a key role in drawing younger audiences and families. The ensemble cast, including Sachin Khedekar and Kshitee Jog, has been widely appreciated.
With extremely positive critic and audience feedback, the film has turned largely review-proof, and with strong word-of-mouth, a healthy weekend jump is expected. KrantiJyoti Vidhyalaya Marathi Madhyam firmly positions itself as one of the first big Marathi box office winners of 2026.
