The box office war between two big comedy franchises is intensifying. While Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and a host of stars, has had a good opening, it has not matched the stat set by Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, also with a clash release.
The Sajid Nadiadwala multi-star-produced film grossed ₹91.83 crore nett in its first weekend. But that was actually lower than 20% than Kartik Aaryan‘s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which surged to ₹110.20 crore nett in three days.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 also had a strong Monday with ₹17.80 crore for a total of ₹128 crore nett in 4 days. Housefull 5 had strictly decent hold with 13.15 crore net Monday. Film has 134.08 crore total after week one and thus still 20% behind Kartik Aaryan starrer’s 168.86 crore after week one.

Franchise Appeal vs Franchise Fatigue?
Despite potentially being India’s biggest comedy franchise, Housefull 5 does not yet have the appeal, or expectations, people were anticipating in terms of footfall on its opening weekend. While the film has a massive cast in Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff, the content of the movie received mixed reception, especially on digital platforms.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3brought the horror-comedy elements back to the forefront, led by Kartik Aaryan, and the film continued to maintain some semblance of a positive word-of-mouth reception amid the clash, which surely led to higher daily traction.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
Although Housefull 5 is performing decently, it is simply not enough for a franchise with such scale and budget, and it is concerning it is falling behind a competing movie like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in a solo release situation. Until then, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will remain the comedy king of 2025.
