Obsession Box Office: Indie Horror Hit Hits Rs 15 Crore In India As Tuesday Scores Highest Footfall Of Run

The Indian box office has found an unlikely Hollywood firestarter in Obsession. At a time when theatrical success is often driven by familiar franchises and big marketing muscle, Curry Barker’s indie horror film is pulling audiences through sheer momentum.

What began as a genre release with limited scale has quickly turned into a buzzy theatrical surprise. The film’s weekday trend has now become the real conversation point, with audiences continuing to show up after the weekend rush and giving the title a strong shot at an impressive first week.

Obsession Records Its Biggest Admissions Day On Tuesday

Obsession collected around Rs 3 crore gross in India on Tuesday, taking its five day total to approximately Rs 15 crore. The Tuesday number marked a 45 percent jump from Monday, which was already considered a solid weekday hold for a Hollywood horror title.

Even more strikingly, Tuesday surpassed Saturday and came within touching distance of Sunday in collections. In admissions, it became the film’s biggest day yet, overtaking Sunday footfalls. That makes the weekday spike more significant than a routine collection jump, because it shows that audience turnout is expanding after the weekend.

Advance bookings for Wednesday also stayed close to Tuesday levels and comfortably ahead of Monday, putting the film on track for a first week near Rs 20 crore. At this pace, Obsession has turned into one of Hollywood’s sharpest box office surprises in India this year.

Why Obsession Is A Major Indie Horror Win

The success of Obsession stands out because it is not part of an established horror universe. In India, Hollywood horror has often peaked through recognisable IP, especially films from The Conjuring universe. Barker’s film, however, has broken through without that brand cushion.

The film was made on a modest production budget of around USD 750K. Its Indian theatrical share alone is expected to cover that cost, which underlines how commercially valuable this run has become for a film of its scale. A strong second week hold will now determine how far the lifetime total can travel.

A Supernatural Wish Story Finds Its Audience

Obsession is a supernatural horror film written and directed by Curry Barker. It stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. Focus Features released the film theatrically in the United States on May 15, 2026, while it opened in India on May 29, 2026.

The story follows a hopeless romantic who breaks the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, only to discover that getting exactly what he asked for comes at a dark price. With its intimate premise and word of mouth traction, Obsession has become a rare indie horror title to scare up serious numbers in India.
