The Indian box office has found one of its most surprising Hollywood stories of the season in Obsession. Curry Barker’s psychological horror thriller, led by Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, has not just held steady after its opening week, it has grown at a pace that rarely comes around for a genre film driven largely by audience chatter.
As of June 12, 2026, the film has completed two weeks in Indian cinemas with a running gross of Rs 59 crore. What makes the number stand out is the shape of the run. After a first week of Rs 20.85 crore gross, Obsession delivered a much stronger second week of around Rs 37.15 crore gross, marking a jump of nearly 43 percent over its opening week.
Obsession Records A Terrific Second Week In India
Obsession collected an estimated Rs 3.75 crore on its second Thursday, taking its 14-day India total to Rs 58 crore gross. The second week surge was powered by a strong second weekend, with the film earning Rs 4 crore on its second Friday, Rs 8 crore on its second Saturday, and Rs 8.75 crore on its second Sunday.
The weekday trend remained healthy as well. The horror thriller added Rs 4.15 crore on its second Monday, Rs 4.50 crore on Tuesday, Rs 4 crore on Wednesday, and Rs 3.75 crore on Thursday. For a film that began with modest numbers, including Rs 1.60 crore on its first Friday and Rs 3.75 crore on its first Sunday, the current trajectory underlines a clear word-of-mouth push.
The film is now eyeing a robust third weekend, with trade estimates indicating that another Rs 13 crore to Rs 15 crore frame can take it closer to the Rs 75 crore gross mark in India. A lifetime total above Rs 90 crore is now within reach if the holds remain steady through fresh Hindi and Hollywood competition.

What Obsession Is About
Written and directed by Curry Barker, Obsession is a psychological horror thriller starring Michael Johnston as Bear and Inde Navarrette as Nikki, alongside Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. The film has been backed by Blumhouse Productions, Capstone Studios, Tea Shop Productions and Under the Shell, with Focus Features handling its United States release and Universal Pictures distributing it internationally.
The story follows Bear, who makes a wish that Nikki would love him more than anything in the world. What begins as a supernatural fantasy quickly turns into a disturbing spiral of control, consent and consequences.
Barker, speaking in an interview with DiscussingFilm, explained the emotional core behind the horror, saying, “Well, we wanted it to feel grounded, and we wanted to really lean into, ‘OK, magic is real in this world, fine. Let’s accept that, let’s move on,’” He added, “And now, what you’re left with is a pretty tragic story about a man and a woman, and leaning into the realism of that was really important to me.”
With its sharp week-two jump, Obsession has emerged as a bona fide box office success in India.
