A muted start was one thing, but Ohh My Dog needed a far stronger Saturday bounce to change the conversation around its box office run. That recovery never arrived. After opening at Rs 0.85 crore nett on day one, Pankaj Tripathi and Amit Rai’s film collected an estimated Rs 1.10 crore nett on day two, pushing its two-day total to Rs 1.95 crore nett and leaving it headed for a poor opening weekend in the Rs 3 crore to Rs 3.20 crore nett range.
That low day two growth is now the film’s defining early trend. For a theatrical release backed by a known actor and a director coming off a widely noticed previous film, the expectation was that family audiences would fuel a clearer jump on Saturday. Instead, the rise stayed limited, and that keeps the weekend outlook firmly under pressure.
Low Day 2 Growth Keeps Weekend Outlook Weak
The concern for Ohh My Dog is not simply the opening number, but the lack of acceleration when the film needed it most. A move from Rs 0.85 crore nett to Rs 1.10 crore nett does little to shift the overall narrative, especially when Saturday is usually the first real test of audience traction. With Rs 1.95 crore nett in two days, even a better Sunday would still leave the film looking at only a modest first frame.
That underwhelming theatrical response feels even more significant because Amit Rai had publicly positioned the film as one that could connect strongly with family viewers. Explaining an earlier release date shift, the filmmaker said, “The reaction of the audience, especially children, was tremendous, more than expected.” He had also said, “By then, there will be a little space, and we might be able to grow there.” Those hopes have not translated into a meaningful box office lift so far.
A Family Drama Struggles To Find Its Theatrical Footing
Directed by Amit Rai, Ohh My Dog arrived in cinemas on August 7, 2026, with Pankaj Tripathi leading a cast that also includes Pavan Malhotra, Maahi Rai, Rajesh Kumar and Geeta Agrawal Sharma. The film was backed by Babulal Biscope and Thinking Hats Entertainment Solutions, giving it the look of a modestly mounted family drama with a socially rooted core.
The film revolves around the bond between a young child and a stray dog, while also touching on the issue of dog trafficking, a theme Rai highlighted while discussing the project before release. In another public remark about the film, the director said, “When I narrated the story of Ohh My Dog to Pankaj ji, he immediately connected with its heart and soul.” He added, “He felt strongly about the film’s message and believed it deserved to reach a wide audience.”
That is precisely why the weekend now matters so much. With the film showing only limited growth at the ticket window, Sunday has become crucial in deciding whether Ohh My Dog can salvage some momentum or settle into an opening frame that leaves it struggling from the very start.
