Patriot Box Office Day 1: Mammootty And Mohanlal’S Spy Thriller Opens Strong With Rs 11.35 Crore In India

When two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest legends reunite after nearly two decades, the result is never just another Friday release. Patriot arrived in theatres as a full-blown event, and audiences responded in kind, pushing the Mammootty and Mohanlal-led spy thriller to Rs 11.35 crore gross in India on Day 1.

Kerala delivered the biggest share of that haul with Rs 8.25 crore gross, while Karnataka contributed Rs 1.60 crore. Tamil Nadu added Rs 75 lakh, and the rest of India brought in another Rs 75 lakh, giving the film a healthy spread outside its home market. For a Malayalam release mounted on this scale, those numbers immediately placed Patriot among the most notable opening-day performers of the year.

Patriot Opens Big Across Key Southern Markets

Kerala was always expected to lead the charge, but the contributions from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu added an encouraging dimension to the film’s debut. Karnataka, in particular, emerged as a meaningful secondary market on Day 1, while the remaining circuits ensured that the film’s business was not confined to one territory alone.

That distribution matters because event films of this size need more than fan-driven openings to sustain momentum. For Patriot, the next phase will depend on how strongly the film expands from its core audience into broader weekend footfalls, especially in urban centers and family-heavy circuits where spy thrillers can either consolidate quickly or flatten out.

A Starry Spy Thriller Built As An Event Film

Long before its release, Patriot had the shape of a major theatrical attraction. Mahesh Narayanan’s name brought with it the promise of a layered political thriller, while the prospect of Mammootty and Mohanlal sharing screen space again gave the film a rarity value that few Malayalam titles can command. That combination made Patriot one of the most closely watched releases of 2026 even before advance bookings gathered pace.

Directed and written by Mahesh Narayanan, Patriot was produced by Anto Joseph and K. G. Anil Kumar under Anto Joseph Film Company, Kichappus Entertainments, C R Saleem Productions, and Blue Tigers London. The ensemble also features Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Revathi, Darshana Rajendran, and Rajiv Menon. Released on May 1, 2026, the film unfolds in the world of intelligence networks and political conflict, with a surveillance crisis driving its central tension.

A Strong Opening Sets Up A Crucial Weekend Test

The real marker now is not the Day 1 number itself, but the shape of the weekend curve. A sharp jump on Saturday followed by steady Sunday retention would suggest that Patriot is moving beyond the curiosity factor of its casting and finding acceptance with the wider audience.

That trend will be especially important for a film positioned as a premium theatrical offering. If occupancies hold strongly across Kerala and remain stable in neighboring markets, Patriot could turn its opening-day buzz into the kind of sustained run that defines one of the season’s significant Malayalam box office stories.
