Sardaar 2 Drops Sharply On Day 2, Karthi Starrer Closes Two Days With Rs 7.50 Crore Gross

A solid opening gave Sardaar 2 a clear runway, but the film’s early box office rhythm changed faster than expected. Karthi’s spy action sequel, which opened in theatres on September 10, added just enough on day 2 to take its total to Rs 7.50 crore gross, with the sharp dip immediately putting its weekend strength under the scanner.

For a franchise title led by a bankable star and backed by recall from a successful first part, the first two days were expected to establish steadier momentum. Instead, the film now heads into the rest of the weekend needing a much stronger push from walk-in audiences and evening shows to turn its opening into a commanding first frame.

Sardaar 2 Sees A Sharp Day 2 Dip

After grossing a little over Rs 5 crore on day 1, Sardaar 2 fell to under Rs 3 crore on its second day. That takes the two day total to Rs 7.50 crore gross, a start that keeps the film in the game but leaves very little room for a flat Saturday.

The immediate task is simple. Sardaar 2 needs a visible jump on Saturday to reset the conversation around its opening weekend. A sequel in this zone usually aims to build, not retreat, through its first three days, and that is what makes the next 24 hours particularly important for the film’s theatrical footing.

Film Details And Cast

Directed by PS Mithran, Sardaar 2 follows the 2022 success of Sardaar and expands the franchise’s espionage world on a larger scale. Karthi headlines the film, with Rajisha Vijayan returning to the setup, while SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh and Shah Ra appear in pivotal roles.

The sequel continues the father-son dynamic at the heart of the original and pushes the action into a broader conflict. That larger canvas is one reason the film’s opening was being closely watched, especially since Karthi’s commercial entertainers have often found their real pace once audience word of mouth kicks in.

Karthi’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Karthi was last seen in Meiyazhagan, which released in 2024 and earned appreciation for its emotional core and the performances of Karthi and Arvind Swamy. Before that came Japan in 2023, followed by Ponniyin Selvan: II in 2023, where his Vandiyadevan remained one of the most popular characters in the Mani Ratnam epic.

Earlier this year, Karthi also appeared in Vaa Vaathiyaar, which released in January 2026. With Sardaar 2 now in theatres, his recent line-up reflects a mix of franchise-driven action, period spectacle and more rooted dramatic material, underlining how carefully he has balanced scale and variety in his theatrical choices.
