After massive Diwali clash at box office, this week saw release of handful of films. The Sabarmati Report was the only prominent Hindi release.
The Sabarmati Report Grows On Day Two
Vikrant Massey, Raashi Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra’s film witnessed a low opening at the box office. The film has managed to mint ₹ 1.41 crore net only on day one. The film received mixed reviews upon release. Film needed to jump big over the weekend for any chance at box office and it did that on day two.
Film grew by 54% and collected 2.18 crore net. It has 2 – day total of 3.59 crore net. It will again grow on day 3 and should cross 7 crore net. Low opening day did hurt the film though solid hold on Monday can take the film to some sort of respectable total.
Despite a relatively low start, The Sabarmati Report exceeded the opening day earnings of Massey’s previous theatrical film, 12th Fail, which had collected ₹ 1.10 crore net. However, 12th Fail went on to become a landmark, cult film.
Will The Sabarmati Report see the word of mouth increase like 12th Fail? It will be interesting to see how the film produced by Ektaa Kapoor performs in the next few days, even as it faces stiff competition from the other two big releases – Hollywood period drama Gladiator 2 and Suriya’s action epic Kanguva.
