Ulajh Box Office: Janhvi Kapoor’s Film Manages To Cross Rs 10 Cr Mark Before Getting Pulled From Theatres, Becomes One Of 2024’s Biggest Disasters

Ulajh box office: Despite a strong cast, Janhvi Kapoor’s film crossed only Rs 10 crore mark before being pulled from theatres.

Janhvi Kapoor’s latest film, Ulajh, has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2024. Despite a star-studded cast featuring talents like Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Tailang, and Meiyan Chang, the film failed to capture the audience’s attention, leading to a disastrous run at the box office.

Ulajh was released on the same day as Ajay Devgn’s highly anticipated Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which proved to be stiff competition right from the start.

Unfortunately, Kapoor’s film couldn’t hold its ground, earning a mere Rs 1.37 crore on its opening day. This poor performance makes Ulajh one of Janhvi Kapoor’s lowest box office openings, just barely surpassing her previous film, Mili.

The film’s lacklustre start was compounded by mixed reviews, which further dissuaded potential moviegoers. Even the star power of its ensemble cast couldn’t save it from the slow decline that followed its initial release.

Ulajh Crosses Rs 10 Cr Mark In 12 Days Amid Poor Response

Over its opening weekend, Ulajh managed to scrape together Rs 6.75 crore, a far cry from the numbers usually expected from a film headlined by a major star like Janhvi Kapoor.

As the weekdays rolled in, the film’s earnings took a nosedive, adding only Rs 1.56 crore to its total. By the end of its first week in theatres, Ulajh had grossed Rs 8.31 crore in India, a figure that fell drastically short of expectations.

The second week didn’t offer much hope either. On its eighth day, Ulajh pulled in just Rs 0.35 crore, despite the lure of a special Rs 99 Cinema Lovers Day ticket offer.

While the film did see a slight boost on its second Saturday, with earnings of Rs 0.55 crore, and a somewhat better performance on the second Sunday, bringing in Rs 0.62 crore, these numbers were still underwhelming. Interestingly, Ulajh managed to outdo Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha on that Sunday, pushing its ten-day total to Rs 9.83 crore nett.

However, any hope of a late surge was dashed on the eleventh day. On Monday, August 12, the film brought in a dismal Rs 0.12 crore, bringing its total to Rs 9.95 crore. The day’s Hindi occupancy rate stood at just 10.48%, a clear sign that the film was struggling to maintain any momentum.

By the twelfth day, Ulajh managed to scrape together Rs 0.11 crore, just enough to cross the Rs 10 crore mark. However, this achievement was too little, too late, and the film is all set to end its theatrical run. With a total of Rs 10.05 crore nett in 12 days, Ulajh has become one of the biggest box office disasters of 2024.

About The Film

Ulajh stars Janhvi Kapoor as Suhana Bhatia, a young IFS officer with a legacy of patriots in her family. She finds herself caught in a perilous personal conspiracy far from home. Alongside Kapoor, the film features Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, and Adil Hussain.

To sum it up, Ulajh has struggled to capture the audience’s interest. The film’s announcement in May 2023 generated some buzz, but the lacklustre reception suggests that it may not achieve the success hoped for.
