Yash’s Toxic has delivered the kind of opening that instantly changes the conversation around a film. Despite mixed early reviews, the gangster drama is heading for a first day Hindi haul of 50 crore nett, plus with the final figure expected to settle around Rs 53 crore nett. That alone gives the film a massive start in the Hindi market, and its all India opening across versions is set to land around the Rs 117 crore nett mark.
A Hindi Opening That Beat Expectations
What makes the start even more significant is the way Toxic gathered momentum through the day. Maharashtra, which had looked comparatively softer in advance bookings, picked up strongly after release and emerged as one of the big contributors. The film also found major support in the Hindi mass circuits, helping it race far beyond what most day one projections had suggested.
The strongest stories came from East India. Odisha put up exceptional numbers, with the film placing just behind Pushpa 2 and even moving ahead of KGF 2 in that market. Bihar and West Bengal also recorded outstanding business, while Assam added a solid contribution for a dubbed-language-driven release.

Toxic had an outstanding opening day at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 117 crore approx. This is only the sixth time a film has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark on its opening day in India, or the seventh if Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which did so including previews, is counted.
This is one of the few times a film has opened strongly across pan-India in both North and South. It also did so without having a big contribution from Telugu states, which have a huge capacity for the opening days with all the benefit shows and hikes of sorts; as such, you have a film like They Call Him OG collecting Rs. 88 crore on the first day, but Rs. 75 crore of that was just from Telugu states.
The standout performance for the film probably came from the Hindi version, with a huge Rs. 53 crore nett opening day. This is with limited contribution from South India; otherwise, the real value is more like Rs. 60 crore nett or so. There, however, is a caveat. The film has irregularities in the collections, which point to an external push/feeding.
The irregularities were there to see in the advances, when ratios were all off, and the advance was so lopsided (loaded is the correct word) for the opening day and hardly anything after that, which simply doesn’t happen organically. If you have a demand for Rs. 50 crore nett on the first day, you will have a huge spillover for the weekend, that too when there is a big holiday on Friday. It is just an annoying and frustrating situation to be in as a box office reporter. Over the past three years, it feels like talking about this is just a losing battle, which is not worth fighting. So it’s just better to report the numbers at hand and move on.
South India Added Strong Support
Toxic did not rely on Hindi alone. The film also drew a healthy contribution from the South, especially Mysore, where the response was so strong that it outperformed many major Hindi releases despite the presence of a dominant Kannada version. That kind of cross-market pull gave the opening extra heft and pushed the all India total toward a very elite day one number.
There was also the advantage of a minor Eid holiday in some belts, particularly in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, but several states delivered these numbers on what was otherwise a normal working day. That adds weight to the scale of the opening.
Mixed Reviews Did Not Hurt Day One
The most striking part of the launch is that the audience turnout stayed strong even as initial word of mouth remained divided. For now, the film’s biggest advantage is momentum. A huge opening, robust mass-circuit support, and an extended weekend have kept Toxic in a commanding position at the box office on day one itself.
Across all versions, the film is expected to finish a little short of Rs 100 crore nett for its opening day, which still places it among the biggest all India starts ever for an Indian release.

The film stars Yash in the lead alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth. It is a period gangster drama set in Goa, with the story unfolding against the backdrop of a powerful drug cartel.
