In a surprising twist that’s caught the industry’s attention, the romantic musical Saiyaara has surpassed the much-anticipated action thriller War 2in BookMyShow’s interest meter. As per the latest data on the platform, Saiyaara has clocked 227.2K “Interested” counts, overtaking War 2, which currently stands at 170.9K, despite starring big names like Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
While War 2 is part of YRF’s ambitious spy universe and is scheduled for an Independence Day weekend release on August 14, 2025, Saiyaara, led by debutant male and female actors, arrives earlier on July 18, 2025. A sweeping tale of heartbreak, healing, and love, Saiyaara appears to be striking a strong emotional chord with audiences, especially among younger demographics.
Advance booking of the film was stated at few places yesterday in a very low key manner but film has sprung a surprise! It has already sold more than 12,500 tickets in national chains within less than 24 hours and it is almost certain to surprise big time on coming Friday at box office!
Pvr + Inox: 10,000
Cinepolis: 2,500
Total: 12,500 tickets
Full fledged advance booking for the film will start from tonight and tomorrow. It should open around 9.5 – 10 crore net on day one which is way above the expected number of 4.50 crore net. Major factors behind this fantastic opening are hit music and fresh pair in simple relatable romantic film.
Is Saiyaara the Dark Horse of 2025?
With no established star power fronting the film and a relatively low-key promotional rollout, Saiyaara’slead in pre-release buzz is being viewed as a potential game-changer. The film on a “Mohit Suri” or Aashiqui template is being described as an “intense love story that will break your heart and heal it too,” and seems to have ignited organic curiosity through word of mouth and trailer reactions alone.
Meanwhile, another Yash Raj Film, War 2, has franchise value and action-packed premise. The film continues the story of Agent Kabir, with high-stakes espionage and spectacle, and marks the much-awaited face-off between Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir and Jr NTR’s new character.
The final box office verdict will, of course, depend on content and audience reception. But if BMS interest is anything to go by, the tide may be turning in favour of fresh faces and heartfelt stories too.
Saiyaara Poised to Outshine Star-Driven Films Like Maalik and Metro In Dino
With debutants in both lead roles, Saiyaara is now tracking to open stronger than several recent mid-budget films that had bigger stars and significantly higher budgets. Metro… In Dino, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan, was mounted on a budget of approximately ₹45 crore but opened at a modest ₹2.35 crore. Maalik, led by Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar, reportedly made at a cost of around ₹38 crore, could only manage a ₹1.85 crore start on Day 1. Meanwhile, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, starring Vikrant Massey and debutante Shanaya Kapoor, opened even lower, around ₹30 lacs, despite a ₹30 crore production budget.
In comparison, Saiyaara, made on a leaner budget of under ₹25 crore, has already surpassed all three in pre-release interest on BookMyShow. If this translates into box office footfalls, the film could open to ₹4-5 cr, and could not only emerge as a surprise hit but also redefine what a strong emotional narrative with fresh faces can achieve theatrically.
