Story:
When the demonitization hit India four years ago, everybody was shocked with the big decision that was made. In just a night, the money turned into a piece of paper which became useless. Netflix Originals’ Choked is a story that is in and around the same topic.
This Anurag Kashyap directorial shows other effects rather than the tension that mounted on people during those times. It is a story about Sarita, a bank employee and her husband Sushant, who is jobless. The middle class couple with a kid, about their monetary and personal struggles.
Suddenly, money just jumps into Sarita’s lap, out of a kitchen sink clog, yes, you read it right. Thus the story continues.
Direction:
Anurag Kashyap constructs thrill in the film but forget adding the tension that revolved around during the whole demonization times. The sudden change of notes gave a lot of problems to a major part of audience which could have been one of the focus but unfortunately it wasn’t.
Performances:
Saiyami Kher as Sarita is the soul of the film. She was a perfect fit to play the heroine in Choked. On the other hand, Rohan Mathew as Sushant was the right backbone for Sarita’s character. The portrayal of a typical middle class family couple was perfectly donned by both. All the other characters did well too.
Cinematography:
Sylvester Fonseca’s cinematography captures everything with a keen eye, starting from the nook and hook of Sarita and Sushant’s home to the innards of the building. The camera makes the film more alive and interesting.
Verdict:
Amit Trivedi was surely a melodious addition to the various other surprises in Choked.
