Exclusive: What are learnings for self proclaimed critics & Bandra Juhu film fraternity from limited success of Ek Villain Returns in India, UK & overseas market

Ek Villain Returns managed to open well on day one close to 7 cr nett plus and then managed to show minor growths on Saturday & Sunday with 23.54 cr nett weekend. The film again managed to score a decent Monday of 3.02 cr nett though the drop was distinct then managed to hold well on Tuesday with 2.50 cr nett.

The film was amazing in the overseas market and should cross 1 million $ in week one.

Ek Villain Returns surpassed bigger films in the UK on opening day and over the weekend which makes it already a success over there.

What are the learnings for self-proclaimed critics and the Bandra-Juhu industry –

* All post-pandemic hits were massy films and most of these were critics proof films.

* Sooryavanshi, RRR, KGF2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 & Ek Villain Returns were not typical critic-friendly films but still went on to become hits/blockbusters purely because of the audience’s choices.

* Self-proclaimed trade expert and critic bashed most of these films and Ek Villain Returns got 1.5 stars or poor ratings from the majority of critics but the film is trending well despite all that which speaks volumes about audience choice and negligible importance of critics.

* Since its trailer came out, Ek Villain Returns was red hot among the masses but Bandra – Juhu fraternity were lining in la la land and expecting Shamshera to open at 18-20 and Ek Villain Returns was expected to bite the dust for them.

* This also speaks about how the disconnected majority of the film fraternity especially producers and directors who look down upon massy contents.

* Even in weeks & months to come, massy films will surprise this snooty section of industry and will give a 1.5 slap on the face of so-called top critics and trade experts.

We predicted weeks back about the debacle of Shamshera and the hit status of Ek Villain Returns and anyone with common sense would have guessed it.
