The highly anticipated courtroom drama based on the Shah Bano Case has finally started filming. Starring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, the film will bring one of India’s most debated legal battles to the big screen.
Yami Gautam Starrer Courtroom Drama Goes On Floors In Lucknow
Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learnt that the shoot has begun in Lucknow and is expected to continue for around one and a half months. The team is planning to wrap up filming in the city by April 15.
Our sources also reveal that the team will shoot the next schedule in Mumbai after returning from Lucknow. The makers are aiming for a smooth production process and plan to enter post-production in the coming months. They are also eyeing the release date in the last quarter of 2025.
Yami Gautam To Play Shah Bano Begum In The Film
After the success of Article 370, Yami Gautam is ready for another powerful role. She will portray Shah Bano Begum, a woman who fought a long legal battle for alimony in the 1980s.
Her case sparked major debates on women’s rights and religious laws. With her impressive performances in past films, fans are excited to see her take on this historic role.
Emraan Hashmi Takes On A Complex Role
Emraan Hashmi has also joined the cast in an intense role and will play her husband. His character (a well-known lawyer) was at the heart of the case, which led to national political and legal debates.
This film adds to his already exciting lineup. He was last seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s Showtime (2024) and also played the antagonist in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 (2023). His upcoming projects include Excel Entertainment’s Ground Zero, which may be released on April 25. The actor also has two Telugu films – Pawan Kalyan’s OG and Adivi Sesh’s Goodachari 2. Additionally, he is also set to appear in Neeraj Pandey’s Netflix series.
Coming back to the Shah Bano case film, it is being directed by Suparn Varma (known for The Family Man 2, Rana Naidu, and The Trial). The script is written by Reshu Nath, who has worked on legal dramas like Illegal and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi.
