Lightyear, an original feature film from Disney and Pixar, has a new action-packed trailer. The sci-fi adventure film tells the definitive origin tale of Buzz Lightyear, the toy’s inspiration, and introduces the iconic Space Ranger who would go on to gain generations of fans. Chris Evans lends his voice to Buzz.
Evans says, “The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown around a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life. Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day.”
According to Deadline, “Lightyear will follow how the young test pilot became the space hero that spawned the Buzz Lightyear action figure made famous in Pixar’s Toy Story movies. Angus MacLane, the co-director of Finding Dory, will be taking the reins on Lightyear.”
“I’m covered in goosebumps. And will be every time I watch this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Or have any thought whatsoever between now and July cause nothing has ever made me feel more joy and gratitude than knowing I’m a part of this and it’s basically always on my mind,” Chris Evans wrote on Twitter on October 27.
Lightyear is directed by Angus MacLane, an Annie Award-winning filmmaker and veteran Pixar animator who co-directed Finding Dory in 2016. On June 17, 2022, the film will be released in theatres.
