The underperformance of Kabir Khan’s 83 at the box office has stunned the film industry, particularly the producers of this costly film, which stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The high-budget film is now expected to lose crores.
According to a source close to the producers, the blame game will begin soon. BH quoted a source as saying, “The film looks and feels like a documentary on the 1983 World Cup. Some from the production team had pointed this out while the film was being made. What was the need to shoot at the pricey Lords stadium in London when there are so many similarly vast cricket stadiums right here in India? But the naysayers were shut down by those from the film unit who were fully confident of getting the audience into theatres.”
Apparently, a significant portion of Ranveer’s compensation is waiting. And he might have to write it off to make up for some of the losses.
After the negative reception to his last directorial effort, Tubelight, Kabir Khan’s failure with 83 is a double blow. That, too, was a high-budget film.
