A Special Screening Of Khalnayak To Celebrate Its 30 Years: Sanjay Dutt, Subhash Ghai To Attend, Murmur Of Sequel Gains Steam

Khalnayak, the cult classic film starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff, is all set to mark its 30th anniversary with a special screening in Mumbai. The film, which was released on August 6, 1993, was directed and produced by Subhash Ghai and became one of the biggest hits of the year. The film also featured an iconic soundtrack composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

According to sources, the special screening of Khalnayak will be held at a multiplex in Mumbai on on Monday, September 4, 30 years after its release. The screening is expected to be attended by Sanjay Dutt, who played the titular role of Ballu, a notorious criminal who escapes from prison and is pursued by Inspector Ram (Jackie Shroff) and his girlfriend Ganga (Madhuri Dixit), who is also a police officer. Subhash Ghai, who is the founder of Mukta Arts, the production house behind Khalnayak, will also grace the occasion along with his daughter Nidhi Ghai, who is also a producer. Other cast and crew members of the film are also likely to join the celebration.

A source said, “It’s not yet confirmed who from the film’s team will make it. But actors Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff, director Subhash Ghai and music composer Pyarelal are expected to present. The invitation will go to all the team members of the film, including actors Ila Arun, Anupam Kher, Ali Asgar, singer Alka Yagnik, etc. Along with the team of the film, fans can also be a part of this unforgettable event as they’ll have a chance to win tickets to the premiere.”

Khalnayak received box office success and positive reviews both

Khalnayak received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for its gripping story, thrilling action sequences, powerful performances and memorable songs. The film was nominated for nine Filmfare Awards and won two for Best Choreography (Saroj Khan for Choli Ke Peeche) and Best Male Playback Singer (Vinod Rathod for Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main). The film was also remade in Telugu as Khaidi No. 786 and in Tamil as Kalaipani.

The film was also a huge hit as it was released at a time when Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned, and it added to the film’s buzz.

An industry insider said, “Khalnayak was released 30 years ago. This means that the younger generation has never seen this film on the big screen. On top of that, they’ll get to hear trivia first-hand from the film’s cast and crew, including how there was pandemonium and a crazy demand to see the film way back in 1993.”

Khalnayak remains relevant even today

Khalnayak remains one of the most popular films of Indian cinema and has a cult following among fans. The film’s dialogues, scenes and songs are still quoted and referenced by many. The film also marked a turning point in Sanjay Dutt’s career, as he proved his versatility and charisma as an actor. Madhuri Dixit also impressed with her dance moves and expressions, especially in the song Choli Ke Peeche, which was considered controversial at that time. Jackie Shroff also delivered a solid performance as the honest and brave cop.

The special screening of Khalnayak is surely going to be a treat for the fans of the film and a tribute to its legacy.
